FEATURED WINES
Staff Picks for Mother's Day
Doug's Pick:
2016 Vigneti del Vulture Pipoli Greco-Fiano Basilicata
I am a sucker for highly aromatic, full-bodied white wines. This white blend from Southern Italy jumps out of the glass with aromas ranging from sweet tropical fruits such as ripe grapefruit and pineapple, spices, and white flowers. On the palate it has a nice long finish with plenty of acidity to make this a great option for food or just a refreshing tipple on a patio. -$21.99
Patti's Pick:
2017 Il Poggione Brancato Rosé of Sangiovese
This is officially my new favorite rosé! Il Poggione is a well known producer of Brunello di Montalcino. They are using their younger Sangiovese vines in the production of this Toscana Rosato. It has fresh cherry, raspberry, and strawberry combined with hints of spiced tangerine. The fruit is rich but not heavy, lending roundness to the palate, buoyed by zippy acidity. The persistent finish will leave your mouthwatering for more. This is seriously good Rosé that stands out amongst a sea of pink. Pair this sunshine and your mother's garden (because you are going to help her plant her flowers in the yard or in her hanging baskets right?!). -$19.99
Madison's Pick:
2016 Domaine Ciringa "Fosilni Breg" Sauvignon Blanc Stajerska, Slovenia
Famous for their world class Austrian Sauvignon Blancs, the Tement family brings us this crisp, mineral driven Sauvignon Blanc from the other side of the hill - literally. "Fosilni Bregg" means "Fossil Hill", a direct reference to the multitude of fossils in the vineyard from a 20 million year old coral reef. This wine is as fresh as the day is long. Its bright, a little floral with hints of peaches and citrus and minerality for days. Put this next to a plate of oysters on a patio for optimal enjoyment. -$24.99
Dave's Pick:
Jaques Chaput Brut Tradition Champagne
I know its easy to be suspicious of Champagne as a whole. They have gone to great lengths to link there wine to luxury. For most people Champagne is synonymous with celebration. Some of the large houses have used this reputation to build brands based on image over substance. So why not ignore Champagne all together? Because Champagnes climate, soil and wine making are truly unique in the world of wine. So even though there are great sparkling wines in the rest of the world, no one can quite match the zesty intensity of true Champagne. This brings us to Jaques Chaput. Jacques makes small production wines with personality. The Brut Tradition has a large portion of Pinot Noir (60%). This gives the wine weight and depth and intriguing hints of red fruit all for under $40. With Mother's Day and graduation parties around the corner, its easier than you think to find a reason to celebrate, plus you deserve it. -$38.99
