Summer 2018
It's JUNE!  Once again, the school year has come to an end. Back in September it seemed like a lifetime away, but the last 10 months came and went in an instant.  We celebrated the final days of school finishing projects, taking final exams, and celebrating with Rise Up and a closing Mass and awards ceremony.
Thank you for keeping up with our news, 2017-2018 was a great year.  Enjoy your summer and we look forward to next year and welcoming the class of 2022!

Rise Up
Campus Ministry finished off the academic year strong as students prepared for finals with a praise and worship night entitled, "Rise Up!"  The evening focused around Eucharistic adoration in the sisters Chapel with prayers, meditation, and music performed by PMA music ministry students.  There was also a witness talk given by Alana Sheridan, a 2013 graduate from PMA, who shared her faith journey as a young adult.  Finally, Mr. Stanton offered a few parting words of advice for students, encouraging them to grow and trust in their relationship with God; recognizing that God's plan may be painful at times but worth it.  Mr. Stanton steps down a Campus Minister at the conclusion of the school year. Fr. Larry Tumminelli from St. Basil's presided in leading prayers for the evening as well.

We All Scream for Ice Cream
What better way to learn about freezing points and chemical reactions than by making ice cream?  Mr. True's Chemistry class got a hands on lesson in how Chemistry and a little elbow grease is involved in making ice cream.   They saw how the magic of Chemistry transformed milk, sugar, and a little sodium chloride into creamy vanilla soft serve right before their very eyes.   After some vigorous shaking  the students got to eat their work at the end of class.
Flying Kites with Geometry

Honors Geometry classes constructed tetrahedron kites to give them a better understand 3-dimensional shapes. Once the kites were complete, they took them outside and flew them.  This would be the only time you could tell your teacher to "go fly a kite" and it would be completely acceptable.

Presentation of Mary Academy's
Athletic Hall of Fame

On Thursday, June 21, PMA held our inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame.
We honored Mr. Stephen Stankus, long time History teacher and Athletic Director as well as the 1994 Varsity Softball Team.

Ten of the original thirteen members of the softball team were in attendance, nine in person and one via Skype, from Spain. The team was recognized for their incredible teamwork and accomplishments for being the first and only Division III Softball Champions in PMA history.

Mr. Stankus was honored for his dedication to the PMA sports program.  He has served as coach and AD for over 30 years combined, and  has fervently mentored and coached hundreds of young women, and recently young men. This year Mr. Stankus will retire as PMA's Athletic Director and will focus all of his energy teaching History.

Speakers of the evening included Maureen Wilson-Leal, '94, key member of the Varsity team.  Mr. Eugene Ward, former PMA History Teacher and long-time friend of Mr. Stankus and Mr. Glenn Keating, first Athletic Director.
