House of Prayer
is a gathering of God's people who value:
Welcoming,
Openness,
Compassionate Community,
and Relationships

Here is an update of what is happening at
House of Prayer this week!
Worship This Sunday
Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me." But he said to him, "Friend, who set me to be a judge or arbitrator over you?" And he said to them, "Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one's life does not consist in the abundance of possessions." Luke 13:13-15

How we think of our money and possessions is a spiritual issue. If we do not have the right mentality, our possessions can gain power over our thinking and behavior. Put another way, how much is enough? Do we trust God to provide for our needs or do we act like it is only ourselves? Jesus teaches us to be in right relationship with God first and the rest will fall into place. Like many of Jesus' teachings this is easy to understand and hard to live. Join us Sunday as we seek to embody a faithful and generous life.
A Great Week at Vacation Bible School
The Incredible Race VBS has been a winner this week! Over 70 kids crossed the continents, raced around the world, learned about friends from other countries and how God loves us all. Thanks to all the families and 40+ volunteers that made this trip soar!
Summer Sundays with Mindy
Mindy wrapped up this fun summer music program where kids learned how to play xylophones and metallophones and shared their songs in worship this past Sunday. Many thanks to her for leading this and all the children who brought their musical talents to share!
Luther Park Camp Week
Our 5 campers from House of Prayer LOVED their time at Luther Park last week and have already shared their desire to go back next year (though one asked about going again next week) and even some talk of working there when they are old enough. This is the power of the Holy Spirit moving in the camp community - it is fun, welcoming, and makes you want to go back again and again!
Urban Wildland Race
Thanks to those who ran in, volunteered for, and cheered on the racers of the Urban Wildland 5K and Half Marathon this past weekend! It was a wonderful event full of excitement and pride for everyone's accomplishments. We were happy to be there supporting the joint programming of the Wood Lake Nature Center and Richfield Public Schools.

Summer Collaboration Project-VEAP Diapers
The VEAP Collaboration Team, with a VEAP representative from each church - Oak Grove, House of Prayer, and Woodlake - asks you to bring diapers from now until the end of September. The diapers can be any size and quantity. If you would prefer they be purchased by others, please contribute with a check made out to House of Prayer and designate "VEAP Donate & Do" in the memo line.  We will pick a Saturday in October for volunteers to meet at the VEAP warehouse to repackage the diapers for distribution. During this repackaging, VEAP gives the volunteers a tour of their facilities so we can see the whole operation and how they serve our neighbors in need. Volunteers of all ages are welcome, so plan to bring your whole family. Thank you for your continued support of this awesome organization.
Book Discussion Group
We will be meeting on Thursday, September 5, 2019, at 7:00pm in the Fireside Conference Room to discuss Small, Great Things by Jody Picoult. Everyone is welcome!
Need Prayers?
Want to Pray for Others?
The back of our weekly attendance card gives you the opportunity to request prayers for yourself and/or someone else each week. Please check the "Prayer Chain" and/or "Staff Prayer Chain" on the prayer concerns side of the yellow "Welcome," card. If you are attending ReFuel worship please check the box on the green card under "How Can We Pray For You".  If you would like to be in the prayer chain email to pray for others please write your email address on the card and include "Add me to the Prayer Chain Email List." For ongoing prayer requests, please fill out a new card as prayer emails are updated each week.
Let's Visit!
Would you like a visitor from one of our pastoral staff members? While we often hear of needs within the congregation, sometimes we are unaware of the needs within our family of faith. Pastor Ben or Pastor Kelly would be happy to visit any of our members or friends who would like a pastoral visit. These visits could be health related but could be for any reason. Contact the church office via telephone 612-866-8471 or Pastor Ben via email [email protected].
Women's Summer Bible Study at Oak Grove
All women of Oak Grove, Woodlake and House of Prayer are invited to attend our summer Bible Study sponsored by Lydia Ruth Circle of Oak Grove. No preparation is required. The Bible Study is published in the Gather magazine, a publication of the ELCA for women. Copies of the study will be available at each session.
