April in Truro...
This month we pick up 88 minutes of additional daylight, enough to bring temperatures up about 9 degrees from March.
According to past records, we can expect an average temperature to 45°F, with average lows of 37°F and highs of 52°F. We traditionally get an average total of 3 inches of rain and only 1 inch of snow. It's early spring, and the above-freezing temperatures and rain will melt any snow piles and thaw the frozen ground.
Below are some of the activities and events happening about town this month.

Town Meeting Events
Pre-Town Meeting, Candidates' Night, Warrant Articles, Finance Committee Hearing, Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 6pm at the Truro Community Center.  Annual Town Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday April 30, 2019, at 6pm at the Truro Central School.
Truro Climate Action Committee Petition
A group of concerned citizens hopes to pass an article at the upcoming Annual Town Meeting to establish a Truro Climate Action Committee. The climate is changing and will eventually affect every aspect of Truro and every Truro resident and visitor.
The rise of sea level will impact our beaches, wetlands, and low-lying properties, and it will cause salt intrusion upon our aquifer. Storms, which cause major erosion along our coasts, are expected to be increased in frequency and intensity as climate change worsens.
The petition asks the Select Board to create a new Climate Action Committee to assess Truro's carbon footprint and vulnerability to climate change. Also, it seeks to establish a community-wide mitigation and adaptation program with the goal of reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, maximizing energy efficiency, and facilitating adaptation to changing climate conditions.
You can read and sign the petition here.

Tip-a-Cop Fundraiser at Montano's
The Truro Police Department is hosting our second "Tip-a-Cop Fundraiser" to benefit the Special Olympics. The event is to be held Friday, April 5th, from 4:30-9pm at Montano's Restaurant. The way the Fundraiser works: the officers assist the wait staff in taking food and drink orders, delivering food, cleaning tables, and ensuring all patrons have a great dining experience. The officers explain what the Fundraiser is and how it benefits the Special Olympics. Also, the patrons are greeted by the athletes themselves, which they love. A donation envelope is then left on the table for anyone who wants to make a donation. People need not donate if they do not want to, and we explain that as well. Sometimes people wish to donate but cannot make the Fundraiser, so we have donation envelopes at the front desk during the week leading up to the event. We held this event for the first time last year, and it was a success. We are hoping to have an even better response this year!     More...
