A Winning Winter for the Britons!
February was a big month for Albion athletics. Men's basketball took home the MIAA Tournament championship and made its first NCAA Division III Tournament appearance since 2005. Men's swimming and diving captured its second MIAA title in three years and Jake Burris, ’19, became Albion’s first four-time league diving MVP. And in track and field, the sport’s coaches association named distance runner Cassie Vince, ’19, regional Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year; she’ll be joined by first-year student ShaQuoria Thompson (shot put) at the upcoming D-III national meet.

Kate Mullins, ’20, Reflects on Her Semester in Scotland
Pre-veterinary student and Albion women's lacrosse team member Kate Mullins, '20, spent the fall semester at the University of Glasgow, where she studied the Scottish Enlightenment and how the ideas that came out of that period continue to affect modern life. "I learned how to be myself," said Mullins, who is also part of the Prentiss M. Brown Honors Program. "There's a sense of independence I got from this experience." Learn more »
A Love for All Things Theatre
Several of the country's top theatre programs offered five-figure scholarships to Noah Ascencio, '22 – but "they wanted me to pick one specific aspect of theatre and do that for all four years," he says of the offers he turned down. "I couldn't decide between acting, scenic design, costume design. Albion isn't a big theatre school, but here I can do everything." Learn more »
College Partners with Oaklawn to Enhance Local Care Options
Oaklawn Express Care, a partnership between Marshall-based Oaklawn Hospital and Albion College, opened February 11 on the lowest level of the College’s Munger Place building, just a few blocks off the Quad. Offering both primary and after-hours care, the clinic expands health care access for Albion students as well as community members. Learn more »
Writer Rochelle Riley Addresses MLK Convocation
Detroit Free Press columnist Rochelle Riley brought both criticism and inspiration to a full house February 26 in a powerful address at the 2019 Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Convocation and Community Celebration. “I'm actually glad this got moved to February, because I'm tired of this having just one day,” Riley quipped, referring to the state’s weather emergency for extreme cold that forced a postponement from the event’s original January date. Physician Gregory Eastwood, '62, Publishes Book on End-of-Life Topics
Gregory Eastwood, '62, has written his first book, Finishing Our Story: Preparing for the End of Life, published this month by Oxford University Press. Addressing topics that include “Dying Isn’t What It Used to Be,” “Making Our Wishes Known," and “May I Choose to Kill Myself?,” Eastwood draws upon his decades as a physician and bioethicist to shed new light on one of humanity's oldest conversations. Milestone Reunions – Campus Is All Yours This Spring
Whether it's been months or decades since your student days, Albion's Milestone Reunions (May 16-18) provide an ideal way to revisit those good times. The weekend includes dinner and dancing, faculty lectures, exploration of the campus and downtown, and plenty of time with classmates and friends. This event is specifically designed for classes between 1957-76 and 2009-18, with accommodations on campus or in local hotels. If you've never experienced late May in Albion, now is the time! Nominate yourself or a classmate for the Alumni Board! The Board comprises members from a variety of class years, locations and professional industries. The full board meets three times a year, supplemented by involvement in committee projects. Nominate yourself or a classmate by Friday, March 15.
