Fours students enjoyed preparing their masterpieces for the Art Show

The Fours (Pre-K) begin developing basic skills in literacy and math.  The written word continues to be highlighted through songs, poems, nursery rhymes, stories and books. As the year progresses, children are introduced and encouraged to use inventive spelling. Children manipulate print as they sign-in daily, label murals, create graphs and add to class messages. Mathematics become a key part of theme content. The children practice one-to-one correspondence, rote count forwards and backwards to 10, sort using 3+ attributes, find patterns and work together to create class graphs. Additionally, daily Spanish lessons continue in the 4 year old program.

These classrooms are referred to as the Frogs and Butterflies and children are 4 years-old by September 30th. Lunch Bunch until 1:20pm and Full-Day Preschool Enrichment until 6pm is available.

Art Show

It was a dazzling night of beautiful artwork! Mrs. LaBillois, our talented Art Specialist, transformed GPS into an art museum showcasing student masterpieces.

Each student contributed at least 2 pieces of artwork to our gallery! Children created people statues, drawings of what imagination looks like, sculptures, self-portraits and more! Art masters' inspired works including Matisse paper cut-outs, Van Gogh Starry Night Cats and Jackson Pollack splatter paintings.

Two interactive classrooms kept the event buzzing with excitement. Children created their own dot art inspired by Yayoi Kusama, an exciting contemporary artist. The other classroom was filled with art projects and sensory exhibits.

"The buzz when families walk into the Art Show is energizing! The children are very proud of their artwork and I love sharing this joy with the GPS families."

Fun Night Out

A good time was had by all who attended the Golden Pond Parent Group's 2nd annual Family Fun Night at Luv2Play on the evening of March 29th. Families socialized while children enjoyed the indoor playground, baby + toddler area, Kinetic sand table, climbing walls and yummy food! Lisa Moriarty, Principal, said  "Golden Pond School is a strong community of wonderful families. Giving parents the opportunity to get to know one another outside of our school day makes for a special night!"

Kindergarten Fairy Tale Tea

Golden Pond Kindergarten students hosted their parents with a magical Fairy Tale Tea last week. This culminating event was the result of a busy month of math, literacy, science and creative thinking for the Robin and Bluebird classes. Parents enjoyed the "Jolly Postman lemonade" and student made "vanishing oatmeal cookies" served in honor of one of the fairy tale characters visited in the story, Goldilocks. Centerpieces were bean plants sprouted and nurtured by the students and then brought home to continue the magic.

Leading up to this event, the Kindergarteners spent the month of March following the fictitious mail route of  "The Jolly Postman". As the Jolly Postman makes his journey to the homes of different fairy tale characters, the Kindergarteners reviewed parts of a story and were inspired to write about  "What Goldilocks Would Find in My Bowl" and  "What I Would Trade for Magic Beans". Math games during March focused on number bonds to 10 and manipulatives included Jack's magic beans found inside golden eggs. The children transformed their lofts into the Giant's castle - a dynamic combination of art and literacy! It was another fun-filled month in Kindergarten.
