Hot off the Presses: BEST OF ISBI 2018 in Computer Vision News
Read how the echo of ISBI 2018 is still sounding!
Hello to the great ISBI community! ISBI 2018 is over, but the echo of our Symposium is far from being over. Computer Vision News has just published in its May issue a large BEST OF ISBI section. It includes a selection of articles from ISBI Daily, the conference daily newsletter of ISBI 2018.

ISBI Daily is the result of IEEE and RSIP Vision (publisher of Computer Vision News) joining forces to give ISBI participants a daily community magazine during the Symposium. If you wish so, you can subscribe for free to Computer Vision News: medical imaging articles are published there throughout the year. Enjoy the reading!

Site Visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by Student Branch Chapter
IEEE Curtin Sarawak EMBS Student Branch Chapter
organizes visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Our club organized a site visit from the 23rd until the 25th of April. The main objective of the industrial site visit is to increase the exposure of the participants of the trip towards the electrical industry as well as providing opportunity for them to interact and mingle with the experts in the industry. Not to mention that it will also allow them to experience the great scenery and the entertainment within Kuala Lumpur, and getting to know each other, forging great friendships and bonds throughout the trip. The trip itself consists of 3 industrial site to visit, mainly SIRIM QAS INTERNATIONAL SDN. BHD, Schneider Electric and Mun Hean(Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

On the first day, the participants were brought to IKEA Damansara where the activity for the day was Escape Room (participants must solve the mysteries given and escape from the room in 45 minutes) and Laser Tag.
On the second day, they were brought to SIRIM QAS INTERNATIONAL SDN. BHD in Shah Alam, Selangor. SIRIM QAS International is an accredited certification, inspection and testing services provider under numerous bodies, including the National Accreditation Body, the Department of Standards Malaysia (STANDARDS MALAYSIA) and the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS). SIRIM QAS International Sdn. Bhd. is also Malaysia's leading certification, inspection and testing body. After over three decades of providing certification, inspection and testing services under SIRIM Berhad, SIRIM QAS International was established as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the SIRIM Group in March 1997. Today, local and international customers from a wide cross-section of the economy have made them the preferred choice for their certification, inspection and testing needs

Right after having a scrumptious lunch, they headed to the Schneider Electric located near SIRIM QAS INTERNATIONAL SDN. BHD. They were welcomed by Miss Liew Sook Mun, who is the person in charge of our tour around the Schneider Electric - Gutor Electronic Asia Pacific Plant. Schneider Electric is leading the Digital Transformation of Energy Management and Automation in Homes, Buildings, Data Centres, Infrastructure and Industries. The day ended with a trip to iCity, the city of digital lights located at Shah Alam, Selangor where participants get to enjoy various and beautiful light decorations.

On the last day, they started the day by visiting Mun Hean office for a brief introduction to the company as well as the safety briefing. During the meeting, we are also being introduced to a few systems, such as off-grid and on-grid system as well as a few technologies that the smart grid is using, such as inverter and polycrystalline solar panel. After this, we head off to our first location, which is Yee Lee Trading Co. Sdn Bhd. Next, we went to the Astro Measat Broadcast Center to visit the smart grid facility that was located there. After that, the participants were whisked off to IOI City Mall where they spent the rest of the day ice skating. That marked the end of the KL site visit 2018.

 Testing the Waters

Water on Earth-in our oceans, rivers, lakes, and wetlands-might seem plentiful, but water that is clean and safe enough to drink actually isn't so abundant. Nearly one in ten people still lacks access to safe water worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. In some of the world's most remote and impoverished communities, people live with no taps, showers, flushing toilets, or nearby springs, making it difficult to keep water supplies safe from bacteria, chemicals, and particulates. Moreover, access to clean drinking water isn't just a problem in the developing world; groundwater in developed countries is typically used far more quickly than it is being replenished. As the world population rises, growing numbers of thirsty people could exacerbate already-scant resources.
