$5M OK'd for next phase of SR 32 work


More improvements are coming to State Route 32 -- making the commute faster and smoother. The Ohio Department of Transportation announced recently that it would invest $5 million to fund the purchase of properties related to the construction of an interchange to replace the intersection of SR 32 with Bach-Buxton Road and Elick Lane. Major sewer project in Bethel
A major sewer replacement project is scheduled to begin in February in Bethel neighborhoods that are primarily south of SR 125. Last week, Commissioners approved a bid of $1.5 million from Howell Contractors of Fort Wright, Ky., to construct the Bethel Area Sewer Replacement Project. Read more here.
Property taxes due Friday
A timely reminder from Treasurer Jeannie Zurmehly: Your first-half property taxes are due Friday, Feb. 9.

If you haven't received your tax bill, that doesn't mean you'll be excused from paying a penalty and interest if you miss this deadline. If you haven't received your tax bill, please call 513.732.7254.

Taxes can be paid by mail, or in person from 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. this week at the Treasurer's Office on the second floor of the County Administration Building, 101 E. Main St., Batavia. Taxes may also be paid by credit card or e-check at www.clermonttreasurer.org or by phone at 1.800.272.9829.

A night deposit is located at the Main Street entrance of the Administration Building for payment of taxes after hours. Questions? Call 513.732.7254 or email [email protected].

Deadline extended to buy 2018 dog tags
Good news for dog owners -- you have until the end of February to buy a 2018 license for your pooch without incurring a penalty.

Clermont Animal CARE Humane Society, which took over management of the county animal shelter on Jan. 1, requested the extension as it continues marketing efforts. All license fees go directly into the operation of the animal shelter for the rescue, care and housing of the community's lost and homeless dogs. Read more here.

So you want to be a weather spotter ....
If you are interested in becoming a weather spotter -- i.e., knowing what clues may signal an impending tornado -- meteorologists from the National Weather Service in Wilmington are coming to Clermont County to provide the training.

SAFE ROOMS: Interested in setting up a tornado safe room? Ohio Emergency Management Agency is accepting applications for the Safe Room Rebate Program. This program provides a rebate to Ohio homeowners for the purchase and installation of tornado safe rooms. Apply by March 19. Read more here. 

CHILD FOCUS: Child Focus hasn't moved, but its address has changed. The Aicholtz Road connector project, which was completed last fall, necessitated the renaming of some roads, and Child Focus was one of the businesses affected. Old address: 551 Batavia Pike, Cincinnati 45244. New address: 4633 Aicholtz Road.
