Do More 24

You may have heard the expression, "From those to whom much is given, much is expected?"   If you are in a position to help others in need, the United Way of the National Capital Area has a 24-hour opportunity for you to share with nonprofit organizations in the District, Maryland, and Virginia region.

Beginning at noon on Thursday, May 17, 2018, you can be part of Do More 24, the largest 24-hour online fundraiser managed by the United Way. With over 700 participating nonprofit organizations to select from, you are encouraged to contribute to the Fairfax County Park Foundation. We will use your online contribution where the need is the greatest.

The Park Foundation received donations of $21,000 from the 2017 United Way and Combined Federal Campaigns. We are fortunate to have the United Way organize and promote the Do More 24 campaign in the local media.  On May 17, please take a brief moment to support the Park Foundation.

Reflections of Earth Day 2018 in Fairfax

Here are a few of the many acts on of kindness that took place on April 21. The importance of Earth Day and Arbor Day are relevant every day of life.
  • Thank you, Susan Laume, Tia and Laurel Hill Park Volunteer Team members for a successful Earth Day Clean-Up! Fifteen volunteers, one child, and four dogs picked up 29 bags of trash and several larger, un-baggable items. A few unusual items include: one Nike sneaker, a lamp cover, and glass bottles; most frequent were plastic bottles and bags.
  • Thanks to Charles "Topper" Shutt, Chief Meteorologist at WUSA Channel 9 in Washington, DC  for serving as the master of ceremonies for Springfest on April 21 at the Sully Historic Site. The 5,000 participants at the Earth Day Arbor Day festival were encouraged "Take Action' to protect the environment.
Honoring America's Veterans

Honoring America's Veterans is a special Fairfax County Park Authority program to express appreciation to the Fairfax County residents who serve or

On both Veterans' Day and Memorial Day, veterans, active duty military personnel and their families receive complimentary admission at the Park Authority's nine RECenters as well as participation in drop-in fitness classes, use of pools and spas, fitness rooms, gyms and racquetball courts at FCPA's nine recreational facilities.
This special outreach program is the Park Authority's way of saying "Thank you" for service to our county. It is made possible through generous contributions from John Marshall Bank and by donations that honor the life of Lt. Col. Gary F. Smith.  This new donation continues to extend his legacy which includes the
