NEWS FROM ANABEZI, AMANZI, AND KAYILA
Over the course of the green season, the Zambezi Wildlife Trust which is affiliated with Anabezi, Amanzi & Kayila camps has been busy engaging with the local communities that subsist on the outskirts of the park, promoting education and conservation with school kids from Mugurameno School in Chiawa Village, and adults alike. There was also occasion to celebrate the finished house, funded and built by the Zambezi Wildlife Trust for the head teacher of the Mugurameno School.
With lots of laughter and the joyful colors of ladies' chitenge cloth, the village came together to make a truly exciting and inspiring event with young and old enthusiastically getting into the business of sweeping and clearing, picking up litter and working together as a community. The officers working with the Trust spent time connecting with the kids, teaching them about beauty of the flora and fauna around their home, clearing rubbish from around the village and instilling a fundamental pride in their community and their country.
In the bush, the kids saw the cruel first-hand effect of poaching and snare wire on an bull elephant's trunk, and watched two lions laze in the morning muggy haze, horn bills and fish eagles - the national emblem of Zambia soaring through the verdant tree canopy. There was even a glimpse of the superbly smart dazzle of zebra near the Kayila Airstrip.

Hunger has been a daily battle for most of the families in the community due to the less rains experienced last season. Food and nutrition affect the long-term well being of our communities and our children. Although being a basic human right, hundreds of people are forced to skip meals for more than one day.  Zambezi Wildlife Trust  together with Lower Zambezi Tourism Association could not let the Mugurameno community fight it alone.  Zambezi Wildlife Trust  raised funds and donated mealie meal to the affected over a course of 3 months.
