Thursday, May 10, 7:00 - 8:00 pm
Tuesday, May 15, 10:30 - 11:30 am
On Sunday, June 3, at 12:00 pm, there will be a Church Conference to vote on the recommendations.
I want to thank everyone for the cards, flowers, texts, calls and visits while I was in the hospital for bilateral knee replacements. Thank you also for the great meals that were brought to my home. Knowing that there is such a fabulous support system at New World gives new meaning to "helping thy neighbor". Never hesitate to ask for help as there’s always someone willing to step up and offer that hand.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Our next Blood Drive is Sunday, June 10, from 8:30 am-12:30 pm in our Fellowship Hall. Please mark that date on your calendar. Kathy Goodell and Mary Ann Kelly will be in the Concourse to help make appointments on May 20 and 27, and, if needed, June 3. Helping someone who desperately needs blood to live is a great way to give thanks for our own good health. Donors in our drive will be rewarded with a Ranger T-shirt and a Buy-One-Get One Ranger Ticket Voucher. Thanks in advance for your participation.
Project Transformation
For the second consecutive summer, New World UMC will be doing a church-wide mission project serving as a Partner Church for Project Transformation Central Texas!

What is Project Transformation?
Project Transformation Central Texas is a summer literacy and day camp program for underserved elementary students in Tarrant County. College Interns who are exploring calls for ministry run the day-to-day operations of Project Transformation at local United Methodist host churches. Volunteers from Host Churches and Partner Churches support the ministry. For more information about PT, you can go to https://projecttransformation.org/central-texas/

What do we do as a Partner Church?
As a partner church, we support Project Transformation’s First UMC Bedford location by helping to provide prayers, donations, books, supplies, weekend food for families, occasional dinners for college interns, and lots of volunteers to sit one-on-one with students as they read. We also sponsor a specific intern who is assigned to our church (details coming soon!)

How can you get involved?
Three ways you can get involved right away:
  1. Pray for the interns, churches, children and their families.
  2. Begin collecting new and gently used children’s books, school and classroom supplies, and nonperishable foods for the program. We will have a fun & competitive collection drive at the church May 27-June 9.
  3. Get set to volunteer! If you want to volunteer this summer, be sure that your Ministry Safe status is up-to-date. Sign-ups to volunteer will be in the concourse this week.
For more information or to volunteer, contact erin@nwumc.org .

Sunday School
Last week in Sunday school we learned about Paul meeting Lydia . Lydia was a God-worshiper, she was Greek rather than Jewish. She was a Gentile, the very people God said Paul was to preach to. Lydia believed because the Lord enabled her to embrace Paul’s message. This is an important point as we consider our role in sharing God’s message. It is not our responsibility to make people respond to the message; that is God’s job. Our job is to go and tell.

This week we will learn about Paul and Silas. During their ministry, they healed a woman who put them in jail, but they were able to escape. Paul was so excited about spreading the news of Jesus that he did things like this that were risky. There are people today who still need to hear the good news of Jesus:  “Jesus is Alive and that God Loves Them!”   When we gather together as a community of faith for Worship, Sunday school, and Small groups we recognize that for the church to grow and thrive, people need to meet together and learn about God. When we invite others to join us at church, we help spread the good news:  “Jesus is Alive and God Loves Them.”

Our Bible verse for this month is:

“Change your hearts and lives.” Acts 2:38
Mother's Day Schedule
This coming Sunday is Mother’s Day! Joyful Noise Music and Arts will meet during the 9:30 am worship service following the Children’s Time in the Children’s Wing. They are preparing music for the Pops Concert.

The Good News Music and Arts group will meet at the same time as the Joyful Noise Music and Arts Group on Sunday morning, May 20. The Good News group will also meet at 5:30 before the Pops concert to prepare for the concert.

Look on The Bright Side

Hello Friends!
The last two weeks we have talked about the three types of giving at New World; General Fund gifts, Designated gifts and this week will chat about Endowment/Forever gifts.
Endowment Gifts (or Forever Gifts) are gifts that are invested with the Texas Methodist Foundation for the long-term future of New World. The principle of our endowment fund cannot be utilized, only the interest and dividends may be withdrawn.  Because the principle is left untouched year after year and increases as people contribute, the fund will provide a secure financial base for generations to come. Giving to the Endowment fund is a great way to honor a loved one, convey sympathy to a bereaved family, commemorate a special occasion or honor a person’s life and accomplishments.

Dear Brothers and sisters in Christ,

We are writing this article on Sunday afternoon, April 29, after receiving the recommendations for our Healthy Church Initiative consultation team. It has been a very busy weekend, as many of you have experienced. Gail and I were delighted that even before the official recommendations, we will be called to a Season of Prayer - for six weeks - just enough time to create a habit! The whole weekend was about connecting with God and God's will for us.

Gail and I get a newsletter from Ransomed Heart Ministry that had some good suggestions about ways to connect with God in our busy lives. We all need more of God - so what are we doing on a regular basis to make more room for God in our lives? Most of us are waiting for Him to invade our lives - rather than making space for God. So Ransomed Hearts Ministry suggested "The One Minute Pause" - inserted intentionally and repeatedly in our day. Between phone calls, after completing an email, when you pull up to the grocery store or work place, before you hop out and race inside, just pause for a full minute! Still your mind, lay your head on the steering wheel, your desk or in your hands and open yourself up to God. This sounds simplistic but it is effective. In essence you are opening up Soul Space - Breathing Room and God is right there. This is not intended to replace your regular prayer life, only to provide opportunity for "God time" in your life. A time and opportunity to hear from our Lord.

God Bless
