There's lives to save so let's get to work!
PetConnect Rescue News - April 2019  Edition
Dear PetConnect Rescue Family,

April is all about the rebirth of nature -- and the birth of baby animals as shelters fill with puppies and kittens found outside, abandoned in boxes at the shelter door or dumped by people who don't spay or neuter their adult animals.
Every day we are faced with heartbreaking decisions as we strive to rescue as many of these precious lives as we can.

We could not do this without the PetConnect Rescue family. This is where we reach out to you for support. Please keep these babies in mind when you read below about ways to volunteer for PetConnect Rescue.

April is also Prevention of Cruelty to Animals month. There is so much more to be done, but we are heartened by two recent steps in the right direction: The U.S. Department of Agriculture is ending a controversial long-running research program where they bred kittens, infected them with toxoplasmosis to study food-borne illnesses and then put them down after infection. Pressure from the public, advocacy groups and Congress caused USDA to discontinue the program.

Virginia recently increased the penalty  for "cruelly or unnecessarily beating, maiming, mutilating, or killing a dog or cat" to a felony. Previously, the animal had to die before a suspect faced a felony charge.

There is so much more to be done, but together we can continue to make a positive difference in the lives of animals. And
if you've been thinking about fostering, now is a great time to step up. Thank you!

With Warmest Wishes,

Lisa Velenovsky

Executive Director

Callie & Sophia

Princess

Woof, hello, everyone. We're Callie and Sophia, a mom and daughter super duo. We're three-year-old beagle/corgi/dachshund mixes (who knows?!) and were rescued from South Carolina. We just learned how amazing life in a home is and now our greatest pleasure is snuggling on the couch with our person. Walks are ok but really, we're not lying about the snuggling part. We have so much love to give and just know that if someone is willing to take a chance on two adorable dogs, they will NOT be disappointed. We're house and crate trained and super quiet. We are literally perfect. Please won't you come take a closer look at us?

Meow to all. I'm Princess, a twelve year old Himalayan cat. I haven't had the easiest time of things. I was recently rescued from a house that was in poor condition. I was covered in filth and in need of good vet care. Thankfully PetConnect Rescue saw my beauty and potential and found me a wonderful foster home. It's so nice feeling safe and loved again. I'm looking for a quiet home (with some good spots for sunbathing) with someone who wants a sweet cat with whom to cuddle. Are you my person? I promise to love you for the rest of my days.  If you're ready to invite me into your home and into your heart, please r ead more about me!

You Won't Want to Miss a Thing!
