COMMUNION OFFERING

T his Sunday's C ommunion offering will benefit the GUATEMALA ENGLISH CAMP organized by Pura Vida Ministries. This summer, three grandparents and two granddaughters from our church will be joining members of other churches in the area for an ecumenical mission trip to Guatemala.  Pura Vida's mission is to facilitate the sharing of resources with communities in Guatemala in a meaningful, respectful, and long-term way.  As it has done for the past several years, Pura Vida has put together a group of volunteers to spend a week speaking English with schoolchildren at an English Language Camp sponsored by the Methodist Church in Guatemala.  Volunteers are paying for their own travel and lodging, but are hoping to get some financial support from their congregations to cover items such as supplies and lunches at the camp.  Any donations toward this goal will be much appreciated!  Please contact Michael Eaton at 303-669-0063 if you have any questions.

MISSIONS CLOTHING DRIVE FOR THE TENNYSON
CENTER FOR CHILDREN
Sunday, April 28th before and after services

Tennyson Center for Children is a residential treatment center and K-12 school for emotionally and crisis-affected children and youth, particularly those who have suffered from abuse and neglect. It serves children ranging in age from 5-18 and states as its mission: "We are dedicated to ensuring that these amazing kids have the fighting chance they deserve at a satisfying and fulfilling life."  Many children come to Tennyson Center wearing clothes that are torn, tattered and one or two sizes too small.  To ensure that every child has clothes that fit, Tennyson Center accepts donations of new clothing in its Dress a Child program.

Our shopping expert, Katie Zapotoczny, will purchase a variety of new clothing for this drive (used clothing is not accepted).  You can support this program by donating to cover the cost of these clothes purchased for the Tennyson Center's resident children. The clothes that Missions has purchased will be displayed and available for "sponsorship" on April 28th in the Fellowship Hall, before and after services.  Please consider supporting this effort!  Questions?  Call Bill Graf 303-246-8330 or email [email protected].

FINANCIAL PARTNERS NEEDED FOR THE BAREFOOT MILE

A CALL TO ACTION: FIGHT CHILD TRAFFICKING

The JOY Team is seeking financial partners for the BAREFOOT MILE {BFM} fundraiser on June 22. Please prayerfully consider if you could make this commitment. If you have a personal connection to an area business, please approach them on behalf of JOY International. There are letters describing the work of JOY and the BFM, as well as donor forms in the narthex. A Designated Fund has been established for JOY International through our church; write a check to UMCE and put JOY on the memo line to make a donation.  All designated monies will be forwarded to JOY.  Every dollar raised is a step toward freedom for a child enslaved in trafficking. Please see Jan Thurling for more information or call 720-391-9550.

INTERESTED IN CHURCH MEMBERSHIP?

We cordially invite you to join as a member of UMC of Evergreen.  We are blessed with a multi-faceted, multi-generational congregation which we would love for you to be fully a part of.  We will receive members on Palm Sunday, April 14  {or, an alternate date given individual schedules}.  Please contact Pastor Deb Olenyik to explore this option.  Text or call 307-287-2192  {Wyoming based area code}, or email   [email protected].

LOOKING FOR SAFEWAY SHOPPERS

We encourage people who shop at Safeway to purchase a card from the church for $10, then support the church by loading your new card with cash or a credit card at a Safeway checkout.  You can continue to load the same card on an ongoing basis at the store, and the church continues to benefit.  The church will receive a check for 5% of sales.  We have several shoppers at Kings Soopers, and every two to three months we receive a check for $250-$350.  It would be wonderful to start getting checks from Safeway as well.  Please see Charlene Hahn or Barb Grindle after church services to purchase a card.

UMM BREAKFAST:  SHOW & TELL
Saturday, April 6 at 8:00 a.m.

By Glenn Stoll

I've had an idea for some time that I'm finally acting on. I've been thinking about having a program or two each year where each of us guys would eventually do a presentation on ourselves. My rationale for this is that many of us (especially the newer members) don't really know a lot about the other guys sitting around the room. I think we all have interesting stories to tell, and familiarity will only improve our men's fellowship group. So...I have asked three of our long time UMM members to put together some thoughts, pictures, stories, etc., and give a presentation to this extremely tough audience. Thankfully, they all gave me an enthusiastic "YES," so on April 6 we will get to know Pem Dunn, Jim Ament and Dave Loomis a lot better. Breakfast is served at 8:00, and the presentations begin around 8:30.  Bill Graf and Mac DeGuire will be handling kitchen duties.

LENTEN CONCERT & LUNCHEON
Wednesday, April 10 at 12:00 p.m.

The Lenten Concert series has been condensed into a single service this year. Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 10 at 12:00 p.m. to enjoy music performed by our gifted musicians followed by a free, hot lunch. Performing selections on the piano will be Terry Vogt, Keron Sandusky, Joyce Scheel, and Karen Hines. Linda Bloemendaal will perform a selection on the flute.  This will be an excellent opportunity to invite friends to join us for a peaceful, enjoyable break from their day.

BLESSING BAG SUPPLIES NEEDED!

The Missions Committee is seeking travel-sized shampoos/conditioners/lotions to use in Blessing Bags. If you're traveling, bringing home your lightly used hotel supplies would be great. We'll soon have a fresh supply of Blessing Bags ready for you to leave in your car, and when you see someone in need at a stoplight, giving them a bag brings joy to them...and you. Donations of supplies all kinds are always welcomed. Thank you for your support!

MINISTRY JOTTINGS BY PASTOR DEB

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you. By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples; that you love one another." -- John 13:34-35

Three things happened on the last night of Jesus's ministry with his disciples, and each of them teaches us an important lesson.

Serve. Jesus took a basin of water and a towel, and began to wash the filthy feet of his disciples. They were terribly humbled to be on the receiving end of this act of service, but they were also enlightened by Jesus's interpretation of the event. "If I then, the Lord and Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash on another's feet." Jesus commanded his followers to serve.

Forgive. Jesus passed the loaf of bread and the cup of wine. "It is my body . . . it is my blood, which is to be shed for the forgiveness of your sins." Jesus offered them the example of forgiveness.

Love. Then Jesus said, "A new commandment I give to you; love one another, as I have loved you."

The relationship among the three is clear. Serve . . . Forgive . . . Love. We as Jesus's disciples today continue to embrace these teachings. We have received them graciously in our own lives from our Lord and others being the caring presence of Christ. And we seek to do them as well.

Which of these expectations is easiest for you? Which is the most difficult? What could you do in the next two weeks leading up to Easter to grow in one of these areas?

Blessings,

Pastor Deb Olenyik
