CONGRATULATIONS UWT - 1.3 MIL FOR CYBERSECURITY!

UW Tacoma will receive $1.3 million that will support 10 scholars pursuing the Master of Cybersecurity & Leadership (MCL) degree; and four scholars getting a B.S. in Information Technology with the Information Assurance and Security option. It will provide full tuition-and-fees support for up to two years for work at the undergraduate or graduate level.

SPACEWORKS HELPS LAUNCH 12 NEW TACOMA BUSINESSES
What qualifies as a new business? For some, it may be the ribbon-cutting at a brick-and-mortar retail shop. For others, it’s the moment you walk away from a dead-end job and towards your dream.

This year (July 2018 - June 2019), thanks to the leadership of Gwen Kohl and the creativity of our entrepreneurs, Spaceworks Tacoma help opened 12 new businesses in the South Sound.

Chowtown, a food-truck marketplace, had its soft opening in July. The marketplace next will be in operation Aug. 2-4, with regular operations starting in September.

SCAVENGER HUNT IN DOWNTOWN TACOMA
If you love healthy competition, the chance to win cool prizes, and exploring downtown Tacoma, the Walk Tacoma Scavenger Hunt is for you! Taking place on August 7, the free hunt will send you on a journey through downtown to decode clues, do activities, and visit locations on foot, by bus and Link, or on a bike.

The event, sponsored by   Pierce Transit Xfinity , and  Downtown Tacoma Partnership  will start at Tollefson Plaza (S 17th & Pacific) and end with prizes, live music, a beer garden and food truck.

SENIOR LIVING CAMPUS EXPANDS
Franke Tobey Jones, senior residential services, has announced the opening of two new residential buildings at its North Tacoma campus.

The new two-story Care Center and new Bristol View independent living apartments opened as scheduled last week with a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house.

NEW MOVIE COMPLEX - EAT, DRINK, ENJOY!
A 10-screen multiplex theater with stadium seating and a bar is planned to fill the spot Sears left open at the Tacoma Mall.

This, would be the first Northwest site for Milwaukee-based Marcus Theaters. Construction is tentatively set to start in September.
