Much-loved summer festivals find new temporary homes in 2018

Due to construction taking place in Sir Winston Churchill Square, a number of Edmonton’s signature festivals are moving to new, temporary locations.

The Works Art & Design Festival

An extravaganza of visual art, design and entertainment, The Works Art & Design Festival attracts artists and patrons from around the world. North America’s largest, free outdoor art and design festival, The Works has something for everyone, including exhibits, demonstrations and live performances. 

   Date: June 21 to July 3, 2018
   Hours: 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.
   New Temporary Location: Capital Plaza, 9820 107 Street
   (on the Alberta Legislature Grounds by the Federal Building)
   Cost: Free

Edmonton International Street Performers Festival

With dozens of incredible local, national, and international acts, the Edmonton International Street Performers Festival will delight audiences of all ages. Experience the enchantment of professional street acts, jugglers, magicians, circus performers, comedians, dancers and hula hoopers from around the world, now with more gazebo!

   Date: July 10 to 15, 2018
   Hours: 11:30 a.m. – 11 p.m. (except Sunday, July 15, 11:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.)
   New Temporary Location: Dr. Wilbert McIntyre Park, 8331 104 Street
   (between Gateway Blvd. and Calgary Trail)
   Admission: By donation

Taste of Edmonton

Taste of Edmonton exemplifies the spirit of summer in Edmonton. This year’s festival will have more than 40 new dishes to tease your tastebuds. With live entertainment during the weekday lunch hours and each evening, this year’s event will be a fun and engaging event for all. 

    Date: July 18 to 29, 2018
    Hours: Wednesday, July 18, from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
               July 19 to 28, from 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.
               Sunday, July 29, from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
    New Temporary Location: Capital Plaza, 9820 107 Street
   (by the Federal Building on the Alberta Legislature grounds)
    Admission: Free

Cariwest Caribbean Arts Festival 

One of Edmonton’s most colourful and vibrant festivals, Cariwest is a three-day event that includes a Friday Night Costume Extravaganza, Saturday Carnival Parade and a Taste of the Caribbean. Visit the Caribbean Village and soak in the sounds from the live main stage entertainment.

    Date: August 10 to 12, 2018
    Hours: Friday, August 10, from 7 – 11 p.m.
               Saturday, August 11, from noon – 11 p.m.
               Sunday, August 12, from noon – 9 p.m.
    New Temporary Location: Capital Plaza, 9820 107 Street
   (by the Federal Building on the Alberta Legislature grounds)
    Admission: Free

Parade: Saturday, August 11, 2018
Parade Hours: Noon – 2 p.m.
Parade Route: From 100 Street and Jasper Avenue west to 107 Street,
then south on 107 Street to 99 Avenue. Parade attendees are asked to enter
the Capital Plaza from 108 Street and 99 Avenue.
