We have moved....
into our new facility.  We are still very unorganized but getting there day by day.  If you were not able to come to 4-H Achievement Night to see the facility feel free to stop and see us at 151 West Main Avenue, Taylorsville, NC 28681.

4-H Summer Opportunities
We have received many phone calls, messages and text regarding 4-H Summer Camp Schedule. We are still trying to  finalize a few details before releasing.  Please know when this is released it will be mailed out through the postal service to our 4-H Newsletter and past 4-H Summer Camp participants before it is open to the public or published.  Sorry for the delay and a BIG thank you for the support of these programs.  There will be some new camps available this year.

If you are looking for an overnight weeklong trip to one of NC 4-H Camps we have spaces available June 16-21 at Millstone 4-H Camp in Ellerbee, NC.   These camps are for youth ages 8-14 years old and offer a variety of daily activities based upon age.  DJ, Alexander County 4-H Agent, will be there the whole week and available to youth attending.  There are scholarship opportunities available to reduce the cost.  For more information click on the link below or call 828-632-3125.

Tractor Supply Paper Clover Campaign

It's not to late to go and donate or volunteer at the Spring Paper Clover Campaign...April 7th is the last day. There will be a display table in the front of the store. It is always great for youth to be there to promote 4-H and share their 4-H experience.  A ice cream party will be given to the club that has the most volunteer hours.

4-H Expressive Arts Contests

Entry forms for Talent, Photo, Craft and Fashion Contest are linked below.  All items are due to the 4-H Center by April 22nd.  The 4-H Expressive Arts Show will be held Tuesday, May 7th at 6:00 p.m. at N.C. Cooperative Extension-Alexander County Center.  If you have any questions please call 828-632-3125.

4-H Mini Garden Project
Open to youth 5-18 years old.   Participants must complete a 4-H Project Book and have their garden judged.   Alexander County 4-H will provide the seeds, so try your hand in gardening.  The tentative judging date will be Wednesday, June 26th.  4-H Scholarships will be give to 1st, 2nd, 3rd place in the following age catergories:    5-7, 8-10, 11-13, 14-18.    Deadline to sign up is Friday, April 26th.   Seeds will be mailed out May 1st.


Wake Up to Ag
The annual "Wake Up to Ag" event for all 1st graders will be held Friday, May 10th at H&H Arena in Taylorsville, NC.  This event would not be successful without our volunteers.  If you would like to help with this event please contact the  4-H Office at 828-632-3125 or email DJ at [email protected].


NC 4-H Citizenship Focus

W h e n :   June 10-12, 2019
Ages:  14-18
Register by May 1, 2019


Citizenship Focus is a wonderful opportunity for teens to spend a few days in Raleigh and focus on citizenship and leadership. They will travel and attend this conference together as a county group.

Conference Highlights include:
*Citizenship themed workshop
* Distinguished Speakers
* Visits with elected officials
* Off-site visits in the Raleigh area

The cost is $200.  If you have never attended this event and would like to go there will be a $100 scholarship given to you to attend. The conference is valued at $600 per delegate but the cost you pay is much less thanks to corporate sponsorship from the NC Electric Cooperatives.

If you would like to register to attend or have questions, email [email protected] by May 1. A deposit is needed at the time of registration. Space is limited to 3 teens per county.

NC 4-H Citizenship Focus is limited to youth that are enrolled in Alexander County 4-H Clubs.


4-H Presentations & 
District Activity Day
Youth that were between the ages of 8-18 as of January 1, 2019 can participate in 4-H presentations. Age divisions are as follows: 8-10, 11-13 & 14-18. There are many different categories to choose from to do a presentation on. Each county may enter two participants per age division per category to present at District Activity Day on June 14 in Lincoln County. If you would like to participate in 4-H         Presentations please contact the N.C. Cooperative Extension-Alexander Center by May 7th. Reminder: two acts from the  4-H Talent show will move on to the District Competition that will be held at District Activity Day.
AIRE
NC 4-H is excited to announce a new format for the State-Level 4-H AIRE Program in 2019. Starting in 2019,
4-H'ers age 11-19 who wish to participate in the State-Level 4-H AIRE Program will need to submit / participate in the following AIRE components: Application, A VIDEO
Interview, Resume and Electronic Video: VE (3-minute   pre-recorded video based on this year's VE question). If you would like more information please contact the N.C.    Cooperative Extension-Alexander County Center. These will be submitted through Google docs and must be submitted by June 10. Do not wait til the last minute to work this is a project that takes some time to complete.

4-H'ers Attend South Central District Teen Retreat
Alexander County 4-H had a great weekend at South Central 4-H Teen Retreat at Millstone 4-H Camp in Ellerbe, NC. Representing Alexander County were Anna Beth Harris and Kaylor Berwick. The youth participated in workshops and in a community service project where they made dog toys.
