We often talk about the direct benefits of Caltrain Electrification - better service, cleaner air, quieter trains - but did you know the electrification project is the cornerstone for growth not just in our corridor but also the larger Bay Area, region, and state?
Caltrain Electrification is a transformational moment for the railroad and it is also the first, foundational step in the realization of a larger future for Caltrain. On July 22, Caltrain released the draft staff recommendation for the Caltrain Business Plan 2040 Service Vision that builds on the work underway with the Electrification project. The recommendation lays out a vision for a service that triples Caltrain's current ridership to 180,000 riders a day. It envisions express trains every 15 minutes, comprehensive coverage of local stations and greatly expanded frequencies in the middays, evenings and weekends over the full length of our system. It is a vision for a system with increased capacity, longer trains and level boarding. To learn more about the Vision, click

Caltrain Electrification also lays the foundation for a number of other projects including the
San Francisco Downtown Extension, which will bring Caltrain to San Francisco's Transbay Transit Center and connect 10 Bay Area transit systems; the
Diridon Integrated Station Concept Plan to make Diridon one of the busiest intermodal stations on the West Coast; and the
State Rail Plan which includes Caltrain Electrification and
High Speed Rail as integral pieces to an "integrated, state-of-the-art rail system that will revolutionize personal mobility and enhance quality of life."
