The History Center in Tompkins County is announcing that
Rod
Howe
will be stepping down as our Executive Director this summer.
Dr.
Howe
was hired in early 2015 as he left his Cornell University position with Cornell Cooperative Extension and the Community and Regional Development Institute.
Rod
, with the active support of staff, trustees, volunteers, and partners has raised the visibility of the organization and promoted deeper collaborations making The History Center a vital county resource. Rod has initiated and strengthened a number of programs during his tenure, with his vision of the importance of place, land, architecture, culture, and enterprises to the citizens and visitors to our region. He has been instrumental in creating a platform to support heritage tourism, in partnership with Historic Ithaca and the county's tourism program.
Most importantly, Rod's vision and leadership with the county, local fundraisers, and Tompkins Trust Company is responsible for the creation of the Tompkins Center for History and Culture. This unique co-localization of 12 local organizations in a repurposed historic building is the result of several years of
Rod's
major efforts to bring this vision to reality, building on the shoulders of others that helped to set the stage.
Our plan is to have a new Executive Director in place by August, with
Rod
helping with special projects through the end of the year. The board wishes him well as he goes on to the next of his many planned endeavors.
