Update from the Executive Director

Last evening's 10th Anniversary Celebration at Surly Brewing Co. was such a delight! Great venue, delicious food, lively program and, as always, warm and convivial interactions with friends, old and new.

Many thanks to co-chairs Carol Vantine and Penny Hunt, and sub-committee members Allan Burdick, Bill Davnie, Barbara McBurney and Pat Hoven.  Your enthusiasm and commitment to making this special occasion memorable was on point and greatly appreciated!

A special shout out to Patty Canney for creating the colorful and vibrant 10th Anniversary promotional brand. From the event's invitation on through the evening's slideshow and leave behind, Patty's design tied everything together.

As was so frequently mentioned last evening, the individual contributions of all of us are what make this organization special - thank you!

MILL CITY COMMONS: We learn. We share. We engage. We give.

Great Decisions: China & America: The New Geopolitical Equation
Monday, May 21, 7:00 - 8:30 pm
DeLaSalle High School, 1 DeLaSalle Dr, Room D104
In the last 15 years, China has implemented a wide-ranging strategy of economic outreach and expansion of all its national capacities, including military and diplomatic capacities. Where the United States has taken a step back from multilateral trade agreements and discarded the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), China has made inroads through efforts like the Belt and Road Initiative and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). What are Beijing's geopolitical objectives? What leadership and political conditions in each society underlie growing Sino-American tensions? What policies might Washington adopt to address this circumstance? Speaker Richard Bohr is an Emeritus Professor and Director of Asian Studies, College of Saint Benedict/Saint John's University. He holds a Ph.D. in Modern Chinese History and has devoted his professional career to promote relationships between Americans and Asians.

Registration on the MCC website is required for Great Decisions members.  Sorry, not open to guests; to join the MCC Great Decisions Discussion Group, email Betsy Wray at [email protected].
