Women In Need
Women In Need, Inc. began in 1980 with a group of Greenville citizens consisting of a DHS Social Worker, Police Personnel, and several business owners and clergy concerned about the lack of resources for family violence in the Hunt County area. After meeting and determining that the need was great, these 9 citizens began a campaign to raise funds for the Family Violence Shelter. Two local business women, Doris Jones and Midlre (Mo) Bates contributed the first $5000.00 and an additional $4000.00 were raised. Women In Need, Inc. saw much growth and expansion in its nearly 40 years. It now has roughly 30 employees, 4 Resale shops, “My Sister’s Closet" located in Rockwall, Greenville, Commerce and Quinlan, and 2 offices in 2 Counties offers Client and Legal Advocacy, Shelter, Resource Referrals, and a Prevention Program to 2 counties.
Here are just a few astonishing statistics of Domestic Violence in the U.S. from the National Domestic Violence Hotline Website:
1 in 4 women (24.3%) and 1 in 7 men (13.8%) aged 18 and older in the United States have been the victim of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
Females ages 18 to 24 and 25 to 34 generally experienced the highest rates of intimate partner violence.
Nearly, 15% of women (14.8%) and 4% of men have been injured as a result of IPV that included rape, physical violence and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
Nearly 3 in 10 women (29%) and 1 in 10 men (10%) in the US have experienced rape, physical violence and/or stalking by a partner and report a related impact on their< functioning.
A child witnessed violence in 22% (nearly 1 in 4) of intimate partner violence cases filed in state courts.
There is a common link between domestic violence and child abuse. Among victims of child abuse, 40% report domestic violence in the home.
The U.S. Advisory Board on Child Abuse and Neglect suggests that domestic violence may be the single major precursor to child abuse and neglect fatalities in this country.
One in 10 high school students has experienced physical violence from a dating partner in the past year.
Nearly 1 in 3 (29%) college women say they have been in an abusive dating relationship.
Their vision is to eduate and eqip victims.
Support services including legal advocacy, counseling, support groups and resource development for women and children victims/survivors of domestic violence in Rockwall and Hunt Counties
and surrounding areas. The following services are available free of charge to victims and/or survivors of domestic, dating and intimate partner violence. Their advocates will assist you in finding the right solutions for your situation.
Their
focus is to help the victim envision a life free of violence and to gain back control of their lives. Even if there is no need for emergency shelter rest assured that victims and survivors will be provided with all the necessary support, advocacy, education, and referrals we have available.
They are always looking for volunteers to help in their offices or resale stores!

, both ex-Law Enforcement. They started 1-10 Construction as a side business with just roofing that completely took off. In addition to that they now can handle new residential construction, remodels, plumbing, and many more. They chose the name 1-10 from being in law enforcement when they used the code 1-10 meaning "Home Safely"! From there their passion grew into collection of things, coast to coast travel collection things to sell in the West Main Mercantile Store from lighting, furniture, antiques, kitchen and room decor, the list goes on!! They are a VERY Family oriented business, which they believe family comes first with their own and of their employees. They have an area where employees children can be while they work if necessary. Thank you to everyone who came out and please make sure you check them out whether you are shopping for decor or you are shopping for a construction company they will take care of you!!

AMBASSADOR SPOTLIGHT
Michelle Rives, Allen & Allen Orthodontics
Michelle works at Allen & Allen Orthodontics as the Scheduling Coordinator. She has been there for two years and enjoys getting to know and help all the patients and their families. She feels very blessed to have such a wonderful boss, co-workers and job she loves so much. Michelle is a proud mother of two boys, Tyler and Hunter, who keep her motivated and dedicated to living a positive and productive life. They are both very intelligent and outgoing, play sports and are part of the bands at their schools. Michelle worked at Zion Lutheran Church and School and Crown of Life Lutheran Child Care for many years while she attended Richland College for two years and studied Elementary Education at Texas A&M University at Commerce until she became a mom and stayed home with the boys for eight years. This fall she will return to pursue a bachelor’s degree and then plans to go on to Seminary School to become a biblical counselor.

Cristal Cienfuegos, Shenaniganz
Cristal is a native of Indianapolis, Indiana but moved to McKinney, Texas in 1991 where she attended and graduated from McKinney High School in 1996. She moved to Dallas and attended community college while pursuing her continuing education and profession as a paralegal from 1999-2014. After moving to Royse City, Cristal remains active with her 3 children Esmeralda, Cristian and Sebastian (who all attend Royse City ISD) and has volunteered her time by coaching sports, participating in school functions and serving as Treasurer for the Royse City Soccer Association. After a few personal life changes, Cristal decided to choose family over career by changing professions and accepting a position as an event planner with Shenaniganz in Rockwall. She is excited to be a part of the board and is looking forward to assisting with the growth of the community! Cristal says: “
I am so thankful to be a part of this fantastic board and community!”
