2019 NAAG Presidential Initiative Summit Registration Reminder!
 
Join Attorney General Landry in Lafayette, La. on April 25-26, 2019, for the Presidential Initiative Summit on Emergency and Crisis Management. The Presidential Initiative Summit will be a major milestone in Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry's presidential focus on emergency preparedness and response. It will bring together attorneys general and their government and private sector partners to exchange best practices, ideas, insights and experiences in coping with emergencies and disasters, both natural and man-made. Issues to be addressed include maintaining communications during a disaster, active shooter preparation and response, infrastructure issues, and best practices to ensure an attorney general office is prepared.

CWAG SPRING DINNER
CWAG invites you to attend our 2019 Spring Dinner on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, in Lafayette, Louisiana, in conjunction with Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry’s NAAG Presidential Initiative Summit. Attorneys General and private sector supporters will join together for a highly personal and engaging dinner with approximately 15-20 Attorneys General at The DoubleTree Hotel.

The CWAG 2019 Spring Dinner begins with a reception for all attendees from 6:00pm – 7:00pm immediately followed by dinner from 7:00pm – 9:00pm at Drago's Seafood Restaurant in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Supreme Court Rules 9-0 in Favor of John Sturgeon and Alaska’s Rights
March 26, 2019

Governor Michael J. Dunleavy, Attorney General Kevin Clarkson and Fish and Game Commissioner Douglas Vincent-Lang hailed the unanimous decision by the United States Supreme Court in favor of John Sturgeon, a moose hunter legally using a hovercraft on the Nation River in the Yukon Charley Preserve in 2007. National Park Service Rangers threatened to cite him for violating a National Park Service (NPS) ban on using hovercraft in federal park units. Sturgeon sued to protest the NPS action, pursuing the case through the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and finally to the United States Supreme Court.

Attorney General Ferguson files first-ever charges under Washington Animal Trafficking Act
Initiative 1401 criminalized trafficking in products made from certain endangered species

Attorney General Bob Ferguson filed the state’s first-ever criminal charges under a voter-approved initiative banning the sale or transfer of products made from certain endangered species.

The charges are the first under the Washington Animal Trafficking Act (WATA), which was created by voter-approved Initiative 1401. More than 70 percent of Washington voters approved I-1401 in 2015. The law took effect in 2016. WATA makes it a felony to sell, purchase, trade or distribute parts of specific endangered or vulnerable species of elephant, rhinoceros, tiger, lion, leopard, cheetah, pangolin, marine turtle, shark or ray.

Utah Attorney General Reyes Honors National Crime Victims' Rights Week

In commemoration of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW), April 7–13, 2019, the Utah NCVRW committee and supporting organizations will hold several events to raise awareness about crime victims’ rights and introduce the community to important resources and services.

According to the most recent Bureau of Justice Statistics’ National Crime Victimization Survey, U.S. residents age 12 or older experienced 3.1 million violent victimizations and U.S. households experienced an estimated 13.3 million property crimes in 2017.
Florida Attorney General Moody Sponsors Crime Victims’ Rights Resolution
April 2, 2019

Attorney General Ashley Moody presented a resolution to the Governor and Florida Cabinet recognizing National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is an annual commemoration that promotes victims’ rights and services. The resolution passed by unanimous vote.

Washington Attorney General Ferguson Leads 38 AGs to Fight Misguided Rollback of Opioid Guidelines
In the midst of nationwide opioid epidemic, HHS proposal weakening guidelines to reduce overprescribing, putting communities at risk

Attorney General Bob Ferguson and a bipartisan coalition of 38 other attorneys general submitted a comment letter urging the federal government to reverse course on its proposal to eliminate opioid prescribing guidelines in the midst of the opioid epidemic.

Washington and Montana are joined by Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Guam, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia and Wyoming.
