Fire Prevention and Preparedness Community Meeting


At their recent Community Meeting on Monday, March 25, 2019, the Mill Valley City Council and Fire Officials presented to an audience of over 350 community members the proposed Vegetation Management Ordinance, which would require eliminating most vegetation within 3 feet of homes/buildings, as well as an update on recent fire prevention and preparedness activities, evacuation plans, and emergency communications. Mill Valley Annual Fire Drill -  Alto Sutton, Horse Hill, Scott Valley and Surrounding Neighborhoods 
Saturday, May 18, 2019 - 9 am-12 pm
Edna Maguire Elementary School - 80 Lomita Dr. 
This annual drill will help residents prepare for an emergency, and assist first responders understand issues that may arise if such an evacuation became necessary due to a disaster, such as an earthquake or a wildland fire. Learn more.
Outgoing Mayor Moulton-Peters Passes Baton to New Mayor Jim Wickham
As has been the City of Mill Valley's longstanding tradition, the City Council has passed of the proverbial baton from the outgoing to the incoming Mayor. At their meeting on Monday, April 1, 2019, the City Council thanked outgoing Mayor Stephanie Moulton-Peters on her year of service and third term as Mayor, and elected Jim Wickham as Mayor and Sashi McEntee as Vice Mayor. Neighborhood Association Leaders Meeting
Vice Mayor Sashi McEntee and Councilmember Stephanie Moulton-Peters, along with Fire, Police and City officials, met with leaders of the City's Neighborhood and Homeowner's Association on Tuesday, April 2 to discuss fire prevention and preparedness, as well as evacuations and emergency communications. The City holds regular Neighborhood Association meetings to engage community members in a conversation to find ways to work together in an active partnership.  Learn more.

Mill Valley Arts Commission

The Mill Valley City Council is seeking to fill an unscheduled vacancy on the Arts Commission. The term will run from the date of appointment to February 28, 2021, where at that time the chosen applicant will be able to reapply for a new three year term. Learn more 
Flood Management and Drainage Master Plan and Task Force
At their meeting on Monday, March 18, the City Council received a presentation on the progress of the City's Flood Management and Drainage Master Plan and shared their support of the current direction and timeline for the project. Learn more.

Public Art in Mill Valley:  Art Benches arrive in Mill Valley for all to enjoy!
The City and its Arts Commission install 2 new artworks as part of the new Public Art Program, Art in Public Places. Art Benches are intended to provide a peaceful, aesthetically pleasing and restful place to enjoy the natural surroundings in Mill Valley. Artwork selected prioritizes beautiful organic design and benches made from environmentally sustainable and reclaimed materials. Learn more.

Mill Valley Arts Commission PaintBox - Call for Designs
The Mill Valley Arts Commission welcomes local artist to submit designs for murals on City Utility Boxes around town as part of our PaintBox Program.
The aim of this project is to highlight local artists within our community and, in doing so, brighten up the streets, beautifying utility boxes and deterring vandalism. Submission deadline is on or before Friday, April 12th. The first submission review will be held on March 26th. Learn more.

Planning Commission Meeting -  March 12, 2019  

58 Hillcrest - Study Session for Design Review The application proposed to construct a new 3,890 square foot, three-story single-family home with a detached two-story accessory building comprised of a 624 square foot two-car garage and 569 square foot accessory dwelling unit (ADU) on an undeveloped 22,734 square foot parcel. The Planning Commission provided feedback and direction to the applicant; the project will return to the Planning Commission for Design Review.

237-241 Summit Avenue - Design Review, Accessory Dwelling Unit and Tree Permit - Request to demolish three structures at 241 Summit and build a new 3,788 sq. ft., two-story home with a detached, two-story, 472 sq. ft. garage with a 640 sq. ft. This item was approved by the Planning Commission.

    • A Resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute a Professional Service Agreement with Perfect Mind Recreation Management Software to implement and migrate the City's Recreation Management Software System
    • A Resolution authorizing the City Manager to award a Professional Services Agreement to Miller Pacific Engineering Group for the Community Center Settling Project in an amount not to exceed $29,500.
    • Resolution making appointments to the City's Library Board of Trustees and the Arts Commission. 
  • Approved a budget adjustment for the Vegetation Management Program not to exceed $100,000 against Next Fiscal Year 2019/20 Municipal Services Tax Revenues. 
  • Continued the consideration of the City's Five-Year Pavement Management Program.

Planning Commission Meeting - March 26, 2019

6 Mirabel Avenue - Study Session for Design Review -  A Study Session for a Design Review proposal to demolish an existing 1,255 square foot dwelling and construct a 2,000 square foot single family house above a 586 square foot garage. The proposed house is to be finished in vertical western red cedar siding and off-white concrete. The Planning Commission provided feedback to the applicant and directed that the project may proceed for final consideration by the Zoning Administrator subject to conditions and Planning Commission feedback.

Planning Commission Meeting - April 9, 2019
 
The following items are scheduled for the April 9, 2019 Planning Commission meeting:
  • 550 Miller Avenue - Design Review, Conditional Use Permit, Tentative Subdivision Map and Tree Permit - Applications to redevelop the 0.29-acre site with mixed uses. Three, two-story buildings are proposed containing 7 living units and a 981 sq. ft. commercial space that fronts on Miller Avenue. Two affordable housing units are proposed, consistent with the City's Affordable Housing Ordinance. Covered off-street parking for 11 cars is provided, with shared parking for 3 commercial spaces. A Tree Permit to remove 7 trees is proposed. The proposed project has been determined to be exempt from further environmental review under Section 15332 pursuant to the requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
     
  • 288 Edgewood Avenue - The Study Session application proposes to demolish two existing dwelling units totaling 2,273 square feet, and construct one new 3,662 square foot single family home and an attached 476 square foot Accessory Dwelling Unit on the 17,037 square foot lot. The existing 521 square foot two-car garage would be retained on property located at 388 Edgewood.
