AUMA Convention and AMSC Trade Show
Register today for 2018 AUMA Convention and AMSC Trade Show

Registration is now open  for the 2018 AUMA Convention and AMSC Trade Show, which takes place from September 26-28 at the Westerner Park, in Red Deer!  

This year's convention will include dialogue sessions with provincial Ministers, and breakout session topics such as the opioid crisis, impact of autonomous vehicles, cyber security, municipal rights-of-way, what the upcoming provincial election means for municipalities, and more.

Members will also have the opportunity to vote on resolutions, as well as the 2018 AUMA elections.

Investing in Canada Bilateral Agreement Analysis

AUMA staff has completed a review of the bilateral agreement signed between the provincial and federal government for the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP). Review the full bilateral agreement analysis along with the Provincial Budget analysis documents on the AUMA website.
Provincial Consultation on Emergency Management Act
The Province is proposing changes to the Emergency Management Act and tabled Bill 8 in the Legislature on April 3, 2018. At the time, the Government indicated that it would be consulting with municipalities and stakeholders over the summer with the legislation being debated in the fall sitting. 
Brownfields addressed in new Remediation Regulation

On June 1, 2018, the province adopted a new regulation – the Remediation Regulation - to help municipalities address brownfields in their community. The new regulation, which comes into effect on January 1, 2019, aligns with AUMA’s recommendations on enhancing the Remediation Certificate Regulation .  
Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC) programs are expanding

AUMA and the Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) are pleased to partner with the Government of Alberta to develop programs through the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC). With an additional $54 million in funding from the Government of Alberta, the MCCAC will be developing programs that advance the development of community generation, enhance efficiency within municipal and community buildings, promote the installation of renewables on schools and enable the greening of municipal fleet assets.

Used oil management being transferred to ARMA

Alberta Environment and Parks will transfer the Alberta Used Oil Management Association (AUOMA) to the Alberta Recycling Management Authority effective October 1, 2018.

Community Conserve invites municipalities to vote on environmental and conservation ideas and concerns to help prioritize the submissions and develop project plans.

A public recruitment process for members of the new Local Food Council is open to stakeholders with an interest in or knowledge of the local food sector.

AMSC rebate program rewards members

Attendees at last week’s Municipal Leaders’ Caucus in Camrose were pleased to be recipients of a cheque presentation with AUMA President Barry Morishita totaling $500,000.

Over 180 regular and associate members were eligible for this rebate in recognition of their valued participation in two or more of our business services in 2017.
