Farmers Markets return this weekend! The Downtown Farmers Market returns this Sunday, April 22 from 10am to 2pm by City Hall and the Hollywood Farmers Market this Saturday, April 21 from 9am to 1pm in the Hollywood Shopping Center (near MOM's).

Mayor's Water Challenge
The Mayor's Water Challenge is a friendly competition between cities across the US to see who can be the most "water-wise." Pledge to conserve water, energy and other natural resources on behalf of the City. Currently we're ranked #113 - help us win the challenge! Pledging ends April 30.

5th Annual College Park 5k
On Saturday, May 5 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., runners will make their way around a five-kilometer (3.1 mile) course around downtown College Park, Calvert Hills, and Old Town, starting and ending at City Hall. This race welcomes participants of all ages and abilities and will feature a special start for runners with strollers, walkers, and families. Free parking is available at the Downtown College Park Garage.

City Departments
Department of Public Works
The Department will be open for its third spring clean-up day this Saturday, April 21 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Drop off bulk trash, brush, electronics or block Styrofoam. Donations will also be accepted for Green Drop and Community Forklift.

Anacostia Watershed Earth Day Clean-Up events on Saturday 4/21. Please see their website for local locations that have volunteer openings; registration is required. The College Park location on Cherry Hill Rd appears to be at full capacity.

A replacement grill was installed at Old Town playground to replace a deteriorated grill that had been removed.

The City of College Park will be celebrating Arbor Day on Wednesday, April 25th at Paint Branch Elementary School beginning at 1:00pm. The City will receive our Tree City USA award for 2017 from a Maryland Department of Natural Resources Forester. A second-grade class plans to participate in the program with tree-related performances. Trees will be planted on the west side of the school.

Spring is a great time of year for tree planting. City of College Park property owners can utilize the Tree Canopy Enhancement Program (TCEP) for reimbursement of the cost of an approved tree up to $150.00 annually for tree(s) planted on their residential lot. Backyard Composting Bins are available to purchase from the Department for $20.00 (city residents) and $40.00 (non-residents).

The Solar Panel Project for the Department's Fleet Garage has started. The project is funded mainly by a grant from MEA and will help reduce the electrical energy consumption at the Department of Public Works.

Request for Exemption from Adult Mosquito Control Services. Any resident who wishes to have his/her property excluded from adult mosquito control pesticide applications by truck-mounted ultra low volume (ULV) sprayers must fill out this form annually. Click here for the application

SMARTLEAF® compost and wood mulch are available!

Delivery is available Monday-Friday for an additional fee. Compost is $28.00 per cubic yard and wood mulch is $12.00 per cubic yard. Material may be picked up at Public Works, during business hours or on April Cleanup Saturdays.

Department of Public Works' Spring Cleanup Saturdays

 The City of College Park's Department of Public Works facility will be open for City residents to drop-off bulky trash, block Styrofoam, electronics recycling, brush, and yard trim. Residents can also purchase compost, wood mulch, a yard waste cart, or a backyard compost bin.

You must be a resident of the City of College Park and bring proof of City residency in order to participate, although anyone can buy compost or wood mulch during this event.

Electronics that may be recycled include, but are not limited to: TVs, computers, monitors, keyboards, computer mice, speakers, VCRs, CD, DVD & MP3 players, cell phones & PDAs, printers, scanners, fax machines, telephones, radios, stereos, electric tools, game systems, handheld games, microwaves, and cords/cables. Hazardous materials will not be accepted (shingles, propane tanks, paint, etc.). Residents may dispose of (for free) one of each of the following items per year: air conditioners, heat pumps, dehumidifiers, and refrigerators. Tires will incur a disposal fee of $4.00 each.

Wood mulch and Smartleaf® screened compost will also be available and you don't need to be a resident in order to purchase. Wood mulch is $12.00 per cubic yard and Smartleaf® is $28.00 per cubic yard. (Prices include tax).

Once again we are working with Community Forklift and GreenDrop to divert items from the landfill that are still in good condition. Clean out your homes, garages, and sheds, and bring the items you no longer use or need and donate them for reuse.
