Visiting Lecturer Speaks on Race, Racism and Race Relations in America
Dr. Michael Eric Dyson,
Georgetown University sociology professor, a New York Times contributing opinion writer, and a contributing editor of The New Republic and of ESPN's The Undefeated website spoke to a full house in the School of Music Recital Hall on March 18th.
Dr. Dyson's visit was part of the campus and community interdisciplinary series, "The 60s: Exploring the Limits". In his lecture, he drew parallels between the themes of that decade and those facing the country today, and he acknowledged the civil rights efforts that happened here in Greensboro.
"The Sixties were almost stillborn, but history hit it on the behind and it was born squalling and squealing. Ya'll were at the beginning right here in North Carolina - take a bow", said Dyson referring to the Woolworth lunch-counter sit-ins.
While on campus, Dr. Dyson also met
with UNC Greensboro Sociology students for a question and answer session, and attended a dinner with a group of Faculty from the College of Visual and Performing Arts and the College of Arts and Sciences.
