Dear Friends,

I write this message with heavy heart to inform you of the  ascension  of Mildred Wiley beloved colleague, community  advocate  and friend to us all.

For more than two decades, Mildred Wiley was the Bethel New Life community ambassador. One could mention the names of other Bethel people, and the reactions from West Siders might be ambiguous acknowledgement. But Mildred was well recognized throughout the City of Chicago and beyond. Nearly every State, County, and City government representative was aware of Mildred, and the things that she stood for. And others in the community anticipated her involvement in movements and initiatives, because they knew she was serious about getting things done.

Mildred cared deeply about her community. She was heavily involved in activities geared toward improving the quality of life, not only in the Austin neighborhood, but others as well. As a leader of Austin's Community Action Council, she drove home the need for an effective public school structure. She was involved in stimulating collective impact on the City's West Side, resulting establishing synergistic and productive relationships involving multiple community groups. While with Bethel, she also participated on the Boards of Directors of Austin Coming Together, Greater West Town Community Project, and Erie House.

Bethel New Life continues to evolve, but the legacy of Mildred Wiley will always be ingrained in all that we do.

A memorial service will  be held in honor of Mildred on Saturday, April 6, 2019  at in Amberg Hall on the campus of Bethel New Life, 1140 N. Lamon  from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm, repast immediately following  from 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the American Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.

With warm regards,
