This past month at Vacation Bible School, I was again reminded about how children view God. Just when I think I have them figured out, they say something profound, and I find myself wishing that I had that kind of relationship with God...simple, straightforward, uncomplicated. God loves God’s children and they know it. When was the last time that I jumped into anything with the kind of enthusiasm that children have? Each evening at the end of VBS, children surrounded me with the fun art projects they had made or the pages they had colored. Have you found a project that you could get excited about lately? As we are called to be the hands and feet of God in the world, each one of us can make a difference, and often it is in the little things that we see God at work. This summer, bring joy into the lives of others as well as yourself by giving your time and resources to the important ministries of our church. In the coming year for
God’s Work, Our Hands
, we will be dedicating our 5
th
Sunday combined worship to opportunities for service in our community. Focusing on 3 or so different projects, we will have a brief worship at 9am and then be sent out into the community until noon or so when we return for a potluck luncheon. The Outreach Ministry Team is contacting our Mission Partners to find projects we can do on Sunday mornings. Our next 5
th
Sunday will be September 29. Mark your calendars and plan to be part of this wonderful day of service.

Mission Statement
The Rock Point Mission humbly inspires development of educational, cultural, physical and spiritual well being among the Navajo.
Vision Statement
A future with Hozho', growing abundantly to create a safe, healthy environment for our community.
The Navajo Lutheran Mission School is a small not-for-profit school with a rich 50-year history of providing quality education to the Rock Point community in the Navajo Nation. Many of the children enrolled in the school have parents who attended the Mission when they were young and want the same education for their own children. Navajo children in the Rock Point community have the choice of a faith-based education, which puts focus on the Navajo language and culture. The Navajo School provides a Christian school to nurture the Christian lifestyle among the young people of the community.
Aside from school supplies, the school's wish list includes the following:

Pat Charley joins us on Sunday, August 4 to tell us more about the school. She was born in Rock Point and grew up in the Rock Point Lutheran Church. After graduating eighth grade, she attended a high school 50 miles away by bus. After spending 37 years in Texas and New Mexico, Pat returned to Rock Point in 2015 to care for her mother. She invites us to visit
—they are on the map!

The Bells are About to Toll Again!
|
Emmanuel has a strong bell choir that has existed since 2003. Including two original ringers—congratulations Mary and Marjie! Gene Fougner started the inter-generational ensemble 16 years ago with 12 ringers and his own equipment. Following the church’s enthusiastic purchase of 3 octaves of bells, two choirs formed—Joyful Ringers and Jubilate—utilizing 27 ringers! Gene and Bob Frey recently joined a newly formed five-octave bell choir comprised of advanced community musicians directed by Jim Klein. So, there will be new “tricks of the trade” to share with our choir. Experienced music readers are urged to come join the fun, hard work, and inspiration as we fellowship around music for worship and community. Rehearsals begin
Wednesday, August 21 at 5 pm
in the church sanctuary. Want to learn to ring or read music? Please call Director at 713-0591 to arrange instructional appointments.

Choral Singers: The Chancel Choir Begins on August 21!
|
Our current group of 12 is always excited to welcome new singers, especially in this year of reorganization. This ensemble, because smaller than usual, is expecting to sing beautiful and exciting 1- to 3-part music this year. Time will be dedicated to a unified blend, vocal production and simplicity well done. Gene Fougner has directed the group since 2014 and is also our Music Ministry Coordinator. We truly have a community within the choir and several have been singing since 2003! Accompanist is Cathy Namock. So if you are able to “carry a tune” simply show up, we have a folder ready and waiting for YOU! Rehearsals begin
Wednesday, August 21 at 6:30 pm
in the church sanctuary. We enthusiastically encourage instrumental musicians to take part in various anthems we sing, too. Director: 713-0591.

It was such a blessing to get to travel and work alongside Malia, Ruth, Annika, Jack, Julie and Tawnya. I really enjoyed every moment of the trip
—even the back-breaking work of weeding in between the boulders and picking through semi-rotted fruit. Thank you, God, for giving me the opportunity to get outside of my usual life for a week, see the world through a different lens, and remember through service the humanity that connects us all.

Celebrate the work done together in Christ’s name
|
"At recent synod assemblies, we celebrated the collective work we have done as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Two videos were shared with each assembly, and now we offer these same resources for you to share in your congregation. We hope these videos will inspire our ministry moving forward."
