DCC PTA Giving Back: Daniel Kids Holiday Gifts, December 2018

With VERY short notice we asked our Duval County PTA/PTSAs for help filling 3 teenage girls' holiday wish lists who were new residents at Daniel Kids. Your amazing generosity was swift and abundant , making it possible for the DCC PTA to fulfill every item on their holiday wish lists. It is the mission of Daniel Kids to improve the lives of children and families for which your DCC PTA is humbled to be a small part of during this special season.

Since our visit , we have found out there are  two  new teenage girls who arrived at Daniel Kids within the last few days and we hope to fulfill their holiday wishes as well. Please click the link below for the Sign Up and remember that the girls created these wishes. It is asked that you purchase the exact item(s) requested.

I would like to collect these items ASAP. I can make arrangements to meet up with you or give a location for drop off. I know we are spread all over town, so I will do my best to make it easy for everyone who is able to sign up. I know it is short notice and any help is appreciated.

FLORIDA PTA
Crossing Guards are the unsung heroes of the community working to keep our youngest citizens safe.  Please take a moment to appreciate your guards, nominate a guard, and distribute this information. 

For the 2018 Florida School Crossing Guard of the Year  award, three (3) outstanding guards will be chosen from across the state from three (3) different agencies. CLICK HERE for more information.

The deadline to submit a nomination is December 31, 2018
Florida PTA is pleased to offer four (4) non-renewable scholarships to graduating seniors. The four are in the areas of traditional college, community college, fine arts schools, or technical/vocational schools. If you have a graduating senior or run a PTSA in a local high school, please share this information and check our website for the scholarship application and requirements.

Due to an extraordinary fundraising year last year, we will be able to offer additional scholarships based on the criteria above. The Scholarship Committee has also voted and planned for an additional scholarship to be awarded to a student with disabilities (SWD) or a student with a specific learning disability (SLD). The committee will need to verify with the student’s guidance counselor about the IEP or 504 Plans for any applicants. All children are our children and we want to encourage every student’s desire to continue their education.

The application deadline is February 1, 2019  , please share this information and apply online to the  Florida PTA website  . We look forward to receiving your applications and please feel free to contact the chair, Robin DeVault, at  scholarship@floridapta.org.

* These scholarships are separate from the Duval County Council Scholarship awarded each Spring. More information coming!
REMINDER. . . .

Please remember that PTA is a noncommercial, nonsectarian, and nonpartisan association. Board and membership rosters should be used for  PTA purposes only.  If you choose to participate in any campaign as an individual, do not use your PTA affiliation in conjunction with the activity.

Bylaws Reminder
  
   Please check the front page of your PTA bylaws for approval date. Bylaws are valid for 3 years from that date. To renew your bylaws, download the 2018-2019 form from the  Florida PTA . Fill it out, get proper signatures, and fax to Florida PTA for approval. (407 240-9577) or scan and email to compliance@floridapta.org . Be sure to fill out the bylaws submission form as well.
 

Remember, any amendments need the vote of the membership following a 30 day notice. Otherwise, simple notification of the membership is all that is required. If you have any questions, contact Betty Marty at  bylaws@dccpta.org .
Compliance:
All PTAs are required to file a 990 form with the IRS annually. If your PTA has not filed the required 990 form with the IRS, please do so now. After filing, wait about 10 minutes to get the “accepted” receipt. Print this receipt, write “Duval” and the name of your PTA on it, scan it, and send to  tax@floridapta.org  and to  treasurer@dccpta.org . This will complete one of the six requirements for Good Standing.
