County seeks thoughts on All-Hazards Mitigation Plan
Severe storms. Tornadoes. Floods. These are just a few of the hazards identified in Clermont County's All-Hazards Mitigation Plan.
Purpose of All-Hazards Mitigation Plan:
•To identify hazards that could affect Clermont County, including the cities, villages and townships within the county;
•To identify mitigation strategies to reduce or eliminate disaster related losses; and
•To establish a coordinated process to implement the plan and take advantage of state and federal grant opportunities.

Annual community-building event features free food, games, more
|
The Clermont County Sheriff's Office will present National Night Out 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the Batavia Township Community Center.
Join your neighbors for free food and soft drinks, kids games, bouncy house, raffle baskets, dunk tank, music, Air Care helicopter, Sheriff's Office K9's and more.
National Night Out is an annual community-building effort that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places.

Child Support provides cash to help families
|
|
Commissioners recently recognized August as Child Support Awareness Month. (From left) Timothy Dick, interim director, Department of Job and Family Services; Commissioner Claire Corcoran; Brenda Gilreath, assistant director of Child Support Services; Commissioner David Painter; and Commissioner Ed Humphrey noted that 13,000 Clermont County families benefited from $35 million dollars in child support collected in Fiscal Year 2018.

TQL plans to create 600 jobs
|
Total Quality Logistics (TQL) has announced plans to construct a second building at its headquarters on Ivy Pointe Boulevard in Union Township to accommodate nearly 600 new employees. Commissioners congratulated TQL, gave appreciation for job creation, and acknowledged previous boards for investing in economic development.

170th fair features new rabbit and chicken barn, tribute to veterans
|
The 170th Clermont County Fair attracted hundreds of participants, July 21-27. Congrats especially to the many youth participants who worked so hard for the various competitions.
Fair leaders and local officials held a ceremonial ribbon cutting (right) at the new rabbit and chicken barn to open the festivities. This year's veterans tribute honored Vietnam vets, along with music, rides, food and more.

Professor donates time to inmates
|
Retired biology and chemistry professor David Fankhauser volunteers his talents at the Clermont County Jail. “It’s the highlight of my week,” he said. “I miss teaching. I love teaching. I did it for 43 years.” Captain Bill Hogue added: “I’m sure his classes are unique to the state.”

Rowing event lures many visitors
|
The 2019 USRowing National Championships on Harsha Lake at East Fork State Park, July 9-14, attracted 1,800 rowers from 23 states and three countries. Congratulations to the organizers, sponsors and volunteers who made this event a huge success!

Quilters draw praise for fine work
|
County Commissioners honored Clermont County Public Library’s Cardinal Quilters on July 10. They've made more than a hundred quilts to benefit organizations such as the Franklin Township Fire and EMS Department, Clermont County YWCA House of Peace, Ohio Veteran's Home in Georgetown, the Affinity Project Supporting American Veterans and individuals in need.

County approves 5-year water and sewer capital improvement plan
|
Commissioners in July approved a plan that helps Clermont County continue to proactively address an aging water and sewer system and accommodate for future economic development.
Water Resources Department capital projects are funded through fees charged to water and sewer customers, as well as state and federal grants.

At our parks in August
Saturday, Aug. 10 – STEAMBOAT DAYS – Join us at Chilo Lock 34 Park for the second annual Steamboat Days celebration. Mark Twain returns to spin yarns about the Mighty Mississippi, while our legendary Rivermen volunteers entertain and inform with tales of the Ohio. Complimentary hotdogs and lemonade. Event runs from noon to 3 p.m. at the Visitors Center and picnic shelter.
Tuesday, Aug. 13 – Community Parks Improvement Grant Program informational meeting. Townships, villages, cities or park districts who own and maintain park space in Clermont County may attend one of two hour-long sessions (1 and 6:30 p.m.) at Pattison Lodge (2228 U.S. Highway 50, Batavia, Ohio 45103) for information and guidance on application process to receive grants of up to $20,000 for park improvements.
Saturdays (Aug. 3, 10, 17, 24, 31) – YOGA IN THE PARK – Join us at 9 a.m. in Sycamore Park. Free. All skill levels welcome to enjoy the fresh morning air and a yoga session by certified instructors from Clermont County’s East Cincy Yoga. A limited number of mats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Bring your own water bottle. No RSVP required.
Monday, Aug. 12 to Friday Aug. 16 – TALES AND TRAILS DAY CAMP – 9:30 a.m. to noon at Sycamore Park. Our final day camp of the season is set for ages 3 to 5. Join us for a week of fun where campers will enjoy hikes, stories, games and crafts to get them excited about learning in nature. Children must be potty trained. • The Wave Foundation will bring a stingray to the Owensville Library at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5.
• Learn about the sport of fencing at the Amelia Library, 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5.
• Enjoy Trivia Night at the Union Township Library featuring Harry Potter, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6.
