Hello, 2019 A&E Conference Registrants!

We're only three months from the 2019 Agents & Editors Conference and this is the second in a series of pre-conference mailers meant to help you get ready for the big event. Keep an eye out for more emails like this with useful information. If you worry that you missed one, you can always check the conference page at our website, where each mailer will be posted.

In this mailer, you'll find the following:
  • the link to purchase tickets to the Saturday Keynote Luncheon
  • information on one-on-one consultations (the date to keep in mind: April 10),
  • a reminder about hotel room reservations (act fast, before our block sells out!),
  • details on where you can find interviews with our visiting agents and editors, and
  • a link to our Facebook event page.
Of course, if you have questions on anything here--or anything else A&E Conference related--give us a call. We're always happy to hear from you.

We're looking forward to seeing you in Austin soon!

Keynote Address and Luncheon
with award-winning poet Naomi Shihab Nye

Saturday, June 29
12:15 p.m.
Texas Ballroom

All luncheon attendees will receive a copy of Naomi's recent collection
with a signing to follow her speech.

Naomi Shihab Nye is the author of numerous books of poems, including Transfer; You and Yours, which received the Isabella Gardner Poetry Award; 19 Varieties of Gazelle: Poems of the Middle East, a collection of new and selected poems about the Middle East; Fuel; Red Suitcase; and Hugging the Jukebox. She is also the author of several books of poetry and fiction for children, including Habibi, for which she received the Jane Addams Children's Book Award. Nye was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to a Palestinian father and an American mother. During her high school years, she lived in Ramallah in Palestine, the Old City in Jerusalem, and San Antonio, Texas.

Nye gives voice to her experience as an Arab-American through poems about heritage and peace that overflow with a humanitarian spirit. About her work, the poet William Stafford has said, "her poems combine transcendent liveliness and sparkle along with warmth and human insight. She is a champion of the literature of encouragement and heart. Reading her work enhances life." Nye's honors include awards from the International Poetry Forum and the Texas Institute of Letters, the Carity Randall Prize, and four Pushcart Prizes. She has been a Lannan Fellow, a Guggenheim Fellow, and a Witter Bynner Fellow. In 1988, she received the Academy of American Poets' Lavan Award, judged by W. S. Merwin. She served as a Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets from 2010 to 2015.

Please note that seating is limited. This is an optional ticketed event. If you prefer to skip the luncheon and find food nearby (or at the hotel's restaurant) you'll have this break to do that (the conference program of events will resume at 2pm).

AGENT/EDITOR CONSULTATIONS

Consultations are 10-minute one-on-one meetings with an agent or editor. They will take place throughout the day on Saturday, June 29 and the morning of Sunday, June 30.

If you registered for the A&E Conference by end of day on April 2,
you are entitled to a complimentary consultation with an agent or editor. A link to the consultation preference form will be emailed to you on April 10. This form will ask you to rank your top choices for your consultation appointment (and you will be required to list at least 3 names).

Consultations will be assigned first come, first served. Meaning, in the order that completed forms are received. We recommend that you fill out and submit the preference form as soon as possible in order to have the best chance of receiving an appointment with one of your top choices. At this time, all registrants are limited to no more than one (1) consultation.

DATES TO KNOW

April 10:
Consultation preference form available - you'll receive an email with a link to the form.

May 22: Everyone is notified of the agent or editor they received for their first consultation. First possible day to purchase a second consultation ($50/each), pending availability

June 12: All consultation schedules will be sent out.

MEET THE AGENTS AND EDITORS

Our 2019 A&E Conference faculty includes notable literary agents who represent best-selling and award-winning authors and have sold books to big presses and indie presses alike, plus editors who have published some of the most exciting books of the past few years.
  • To meet our agents, click here.
  • To meet our editors, click here .
We've started sharing interviews with the agents and editors on our blog, Scribe, and we'll continue posting additional interviews as they come in.
  • To read agent and editor Q&As, visit our blog, Scribe.
We also highly recommend doing your own independent research on the agents and editors by visiting their websites. Another resource we suggest is agent/editor social media accounts, where you may find interviews they've done with other organizations in the past. In short: the more research you do, the better!
Join the Facebook event page for the 2019 Agents & Editors Conference. It's the best place to meet fellow attendees ahead of time, ask questions, and communicate with others about sharing rooms or rides. Find it here.
