Partners in Student Success
University Advising Services (UAS) helps your student develop and implement an academic plan for success at FAU.  Our advising program is based on the Appreciative Advising model, which is the intentional practice of asking positive, open-ended questions that help students optimize their educational experience and achieve their DREAMS, DESIGN a plan to achieve those dreams, and make necessary changes to ACHIEVE their goals.  The advisee and advisor are partners, and below are a few tips on how you can be an APPRECIATIVE PARTNER with your FAU student.

Suggestions for Being a Parent and Family Partner
  • Disarm your students and continue to BE THERE for them!Proactively keep your student in the loop of what's going on at home, and find ways to stay connected in their transition to college life.
  • Remind them of the following fact: First year students may schedule their required meeting with their Academic Advisor starting September 3rd - Labor Day! Please encourage your student to meet with their Academic Advisor early, since it is in their best interest not to wait until Advance Registration for Spring 2019 begins (October 29th).
