WELCOME ABOARD FRIENDSVILLE!
|
 SM staff made our first foray to Garret County this month to do some Green Team training with the Friendsville Green Team. Many cool projects are underway in this westernmost municipality in MD, including plans for solar at the elementary school; the Friendsville Interactive History Tour; a new revitalization plan; an innovative Makers Market; new LED street lights, and more.
They are hoping to become a demonstration project of small town sustainability, including creating a micro energy grid. It was a pleasure to make the acquaintance of such a passionate group of folks!

Sustainable Maryland, an initiative of the Environmental Finance Center at the University of Maryland, is pleased to invite residents of Montgomery County homeowners associations, civic associations, neighborhood groups, congregations, businesses and engaged residents to attend the
Montgomery County
Stormwater Summit for Homeowners
Where:
Brookside Gardens, 1800 Glenallan Avenue, Wheaton
When: Wednesday, June 6, 6:00 - 8:30pm
OVERVIEW:
Learn more about how Montgomery County residents can play a vital role in
improving water quality in local streams and rivers, and also help beautify their properties while saving money!
Attendees will hear about the County's RainScapes stormwater management incentive program, where homeowners can receive rebates for rain barrels, pervious pavement, dry wells, rain gardens, and other conservation lansdscaping measures. Also, learn more about how to
receive credits of up to 80% off your Water Quality Protection Charge (WQPC) by employing specific stormwater management techniques.
Homeowners associations can also receive assistance with pet waste management and litter reduction, as well as financial incentives for stormwater management measures on community properties. And all community organizations can learn how they can benefit from creating a Stormwater Action Plan to address a variety of issues in their neighborhoods.

in Ocean City (June 10-13) should make sure you stop by the Sustainable Maryland booth (on the Main Street exhibit area) to learn how your community can register with Sustainable Maryland, ask staff last minute questions about your 2018 certification application, or learn more about what other SM communities are doing to advance sustainability projects in their communities.
