Land Owner Transparency Act Introduced 

The Province has introduced the Land Owner Transparency Act to establish a public beneficial ownership registry for property in B.C. The aim of the registry is to prevent hidden ownership and complement other initiatives to prevent tax evasion. The registry will be public and is intended to be operational in 2020. Read more 
Update on Double Gas Tax Transfer         
 
The Government of Canada announced a one-time doubling of the national federal Gas Tax transfer as part of the 2019 Budget. The $2.2 billion transfer will result in a one-time payment of $278.6 million for British Columbia to support local government infrastructure and capacity building priorities. Read more 
Resolutions Submission Deadline June 30          
UBCM's annual resolutions process provides a forum for its membership to identify common issues, express concerns and develop united positions. Although the deadline to submit resolutions to the Area Associations has passed, UBCM will accept direct submission resolutions that have Council or Board endorsement until June 30. Read more 
Caribou Recovery Community Meeting Dates           

The provincial government has set engagement sessions for caribou recovery in the Peace River region. These engagement sessions will provide an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback on the draft Section 11 Agreement and the draft Partnership Agreement. Anyone is welcome to attend and no registration is required. Read more
