"The Sacred Power of Being in Between"
We are living in liminal times. There is much change around us, and we find ourselves asking, "What will this become?" and "Who will we become?" Being "in between" can be a chaotic time. It is also a sacred time. Come explore what we can learn from being in "in between" times.

OWL Teachers Needed!
As you probably know, the First UU  is proud to offer Our Whole Lives (OWL), a lifespan comprehensive sexuality education curriculum, in age-appropriate classes for groups from kindergarten through 9th grade.

This year we will be offering an OWL class for 4th through 6th graders as well as one for 8th graders.  We are in need of more teachers for both divisions!

Facilitators must be trained in the curriculum. A single training qualifies you to teach both 4-6th grade OWL and K-1 OWL, which we offer on alternate years; a separate training is available for 7-9th grade OWL, which we offer every year for youth in the 8th grade.  Trainings are held in Auburndale, Massachusetts, just outside Boston. FUUSB will pay for the training, which includes room and board.

OWL for grades 4-6  helps children learn about and discuss the physical, emotional, and social changes of  puberty.
The eight sessions of this class will most likely be held after the second service on Sundays between mid-December and late February.  The training for this level is offered on the weekend of November 2-4.

OWL for Grades 7-9  provides accurate, age-appropriate information, puts sexuality in the context of values and personal responsibility, supports healthy decision making, and strengthens social skills, preparing youth to make healthy choices for life.  This class is 20 sessions long, offered from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Sundays between mid-September and mid-April.  Trainings are offered on the weekends of August 17-19 and September 7-9.

If you are willing to be trained to facilitate these very important classes and volunteer to be part of this year's teaching team, please contact Andrea Spencer-Linzie at andrea@uusociety.org Also, if you have already been trained in OWL and are interested in teaching this year, please let Andrea know!

Rev. Mara's Blessing Box
Linda Graves

In case you didn't get a chance to see the box that was given to Rev. Mara at her farewell celebration on June 10, here is a close-up. The Vermont maple box was constructed by fine furniture maker Bob Gasperetti. His workshop is located in Mt. Tabor, VT and he has many items for sale at Frog Hollow here in Burlington. The box held about 70 blessings and poems from members and friends of First UU.  Some were meant to be read prior to a family meal or special occasion and others to highlight a particular time or perspective of life.   In addition, several blank cards were included so Mara can add other blessings of her own at a later time. We are sure she is going to treasure it!
