Director's Note
Dear Ivymount Families,

I hope you found ways to enjoy the weekend and the fall season. I encourage all in the Ivymount Community to remain vigilant with your health and safety measures as you're out in the community, and to stay up to date on the latest COVID-19 data in our area.

We are committed to providing information resources as they become available. The state of Maryland unveiled covidLINK, a contact tracing app that automatically sends notifications to users who have recently had contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19. And as we all plan for the Thanksgiving holiday, the CDC has recommendations on how to make your celebration safer.

Helping your family cope with the stressors of the pandemic is the topic of the Ivymount Mental Health team's next presentation. We hope you'll join them this coming Wednesday with your questions. A reminder also that if you or your student are interested in Project SEARCH, Ivymount is hosting an information session this Wednesday with our partner SEEC. See below for details on both.

Finally, make sure to check out the always popular Boon Supply fundraiser and the season of thanks e-card for staff that are being run by the Ivymount PTA. We appreciate the PTA's ongoing efforts to keep us all connected.

Sincerely,

Susan Holt

MAP Students Publish Newspaper
MAP Student Newspaper
MAP 8th grade students have recently been discussing some of the different concepts of Journalism in one of their social skills classes (applied EF skills). They then worked together to create their own newspaper after being given a deadline for their issue and some teacher guidance on stories to cover. They used the skills learned in other social skills classes (e.g., time management, managing job responsibilities, working collaboratively) to design, write, edit and publish their own newspaper.

Among the topics covered in The IvyPost: Online learning essentials; COVID-19 updates; Day of the Dead; and a survey of student opinions on distance learning. Click here to check out their first edition!

Family Mental Health Presentation
Promoting Resilience in The Time of COVID
A Look at Family Dynamics and Relationships

Wednesday, November 18
7 - 8 pm

Parenting a special needs child can be a stressful endeavor in the best of days, let alone during a seemingly endless pandemic. That stress can impact family functioning, relationships within the family, and individual family member functioning.

Please join us for a virtual presentation this Wednesday, November 18. We will cover:

  • Strategies to cope with ongoing stress
  • Ways to lessen its impact on your family
  • Ideas on how to more effectively manage the many family responsibilities and relationship dynamics within the family (including those of siblings of a special needs child)

Following the presentation will be a Q&A session in which audience participation is encouraged.

Use the link to join us.

We hope to see you there!
