2018 Spring Nationals—Update No. 2
!

Your opportunity for greatness is just around the corner! We have a record number of swimmers coming to compete at the IU Natatorium in just three weeks. It’s going to be a great event packed with a high-energy atmosphere and tremendous swims. Please be sure to read through the email updates and check the USMS website frequently for important updates .
The USMS website has all of the official information regarding the 2018 Nationwide U.S. Masters Swimming Spring National Championship . The USMS site has the complete meet schedule and will have the latest results. Remember to tell your friends, family, and teammates that the complete schedule, results, and live streaming will be available at usms.org .
Sixth Event, Seeding, and Psych Sheets
There are 2,378 swimmers entered in the meet. With this being the largest USMS Nationals in its near 50-year history, we will be dropping the sixth event. The sixth event will be dropped automatically from all swimmers' individual entries if they signed up for six individual events.

Empty lanes can dampen competitive conditions and we'd like to avoid that when possible. Although we cannot offer any refunds at this point, if you are absolutely certain you will not be swimming any of the 50s or 100s, please email [email protected] to let us know. You'll be removed from those events before we seed the meet to cut down on empty lanes and provide for more competitive heats. Please note that once we take you out of an event, we cannot put you back in. Scratches will be accepted through Friday, April 20.

Rules and Interpretations
Hearing Impaired Start Assistance: Any athlete with a hearing impairment may request starting assistance from the meet referee. The request must be made prior to the start of the meet. If portable strobes are available, one may be located in a manner to provide a visual aid. Otherwise, another appropriate method may be employed to visually assist the affected swimmer. Please contact [email protected] if you require this assistance.

Rules Questions: Any questions about whether or not your competition suit is legal? Or how about FINA or USMS rule interpretations regarding the freestyle leg of an IM? The Rules Committee discusses these topics and much more on the Rules Committee Blog.
On-Deck Coaches
Coaches: Volunteer coaches are needed on deck during warm-up periods to help swimmers with starts, pace times, directions, and general information. On-deck coaches receive a free T-shirt and hospitality passes for the days they volunteer. Click here for more information and to register.

Swimmers: If you’re traveling without a coach and have questions, look for our friendly volunteer on-deck coaches in Indy. They’ll be wearing bright neon T-shirts!

Sport Medicine and Science Booth
The Sports Medicine and Science Committee will have a booth on deck. This year’s theme is “Animal Locomotion,” which focuses on the transitions between dryland movements that create a sense of flow, build strength, improve range of motion, and promote body awareness. Movements that will be demonstrated include squat, push-up, bear crawl, frog hop, and monkey walk, with variations of each. The SMS Committee will also provide equipment such as foam rollers, sticks, and mats for competitors to use throughout the meet. An ice bath will be open and available for swimmers to use during the day.
