The United Nation's 17 Sustainable Development Goals were adopted in 2015 to "promote prosperity while protecting the planet." The 17 Goals are wide-ranging, challenging humanity to decouple economic growth from climate change, poverty, and inequality.

Green building supports many of the Sustainable Development Goals by reducing waste and contributing to healthier physical environments, but also by educating, creating jobs, reducing inequalities, and strengthening communities. At this in-depth session, learn more about the UN Sustainable Development Goals, their relevance to the St. Louis-area green building industry, and how to use them to better communicate and advance partnerships.

Green Professional Building Skills Training (GPRO) Operations + Maintenance Essentials is a two day course that provides building professionals with strategies to improve efficiency, comfort, and health in our existing buildings. Participants leave with at least three immediately actionable measures and the next steps needed to achieve them.

This course is ideal for property managers and building staff in multifamily residential and commercial buildings, including: building superintendents, operators, facility and property managers, operating engineers and stationary engineers.

USGBC-MGC is the local delivery partner for this Green Building Professional Skills (GPRO) Training in partnership with Urban Green (NYC Chapter) who developed the training in partnership with the local building trades.

The greater St. Louis region will be competing in the 2019 City Nature Challenge - a global competition taking place in more than 160 cities and metropolitan regions around the world! What's the Challenge? To see which city can document the most species in 4 days. Here are two ways to participate:

1. April 26-29: Get outside during these 4 days! Whether in your backyard, local park, or favorite nature spot anywhere in the St. Louis metropolitan region, take photos or sounds of animals, plants, and other life-forms using the free iNaturalist app. In addition to helping St. Louis compete in this global challenge, your observations will become data that could benefit local lands and waters.

2. April 30-May 5: If you consider yourself skilled at species ID, we need you! During this window of time, help turn casual observations into research-grade data from the comfort of your own computer.

The U.S. Green Building Council's IMPACT conference is the Midwest's green building event of the year, attracting hundreds of green building professionals from across the region, and serving as a forum for builders, developers, sustainability leaders and change makers to unite and demonstrate the many innovative ways the Midwest is raising the bar when it comes to green building. IMPACT will be co-located with USGBC's Green Schools Conference & Expo 2019 (GSCE).

Artist Zaria Forman will deliver a keynote address at the joint plenary for the Green Schools Conference & Expo and IMPACT conference. Forman documents climate change with powerful pastel drawings, and travels to remote regions of the world to collect images and inspiration for her work. She has flown with NASA on several Operation IceBridge missions over Antarctica, Greenland and Arctic Canada, inspiring her art. Forman will bring a unique blend of science, sustainability and art to important conversations on climate change and sustainability leadership.
