This free workshop will feature a Poverty Simulation sponsored by Cooperative Church Ministries of Cabarrus County, facilitated by Joyce Berry-Biles, and presenters from Novant Health’s Department of Diversity and Inclusion. Chaplains, CPE residents and interns, pastors, students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community care-givers are invited to register to attend.

), visited campus March 23rd to share his knowledge of Christian symbols as depicted in the many wood carvings he presented to HTS over a decade ago.
Dr. Williams is a retired psychiatrist who lives at Trinity Oaks retirement center adjacent to HTS. He visits Dr. Love's class each semester to discuss the significance of the symbols in his exquisite carvings. Dr. Williams was presented with a photo book of his carvings that grace the walls and halls of HTS. (

Are You Preparing for Ministry as a Military Chaplain?
2019-2020 Academic Year MCA Scholarship Program
One way the Military Chaplains' Association speaks with a professional voice is through support for training the next generation of chaplains. Each year, we endeavor to provide financial assistance to several seminary students who are currently serving as chaplain candidates in the Air Force, Army, or Navy.
The MCA Chaplain Candidate Scholarship program was established in 1992. Since then, we have helped more than seventy chaplain candidates. Funds to support our annual scholarship awards come from donations by individuals, Chapel Funds, Chiefs of Chaplains Funds, and contributions made through the Combined Federal Campaign.
This year the MCA is pleased to offer up to four (perhaps six - see above) scholarships - each will be in the amount of $1,500.00. All applications must be received by May 31, 2019.

Congratulations to
Dr. Curtis Walker
, class of 1979 and HTS Trustee Emeritus, who was recently honored for twenty years of service on the Akron (Ohio) School Board. Last October, he was awarded the Outstanding School Board member for the Northeast region of Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA).
In November, he was awarded the ALL-OHIO School Board Member at the Capitol conference of OSBA, and in January, he was elected President of the Akron Board for the 4th time. Dr. Walker is running for Akron City Council; the Primary is May 7th. We wish him well!

Dr. Dora Mbuwayesango
,
the George E. and Iris Battle Professor of Old Testament and Languages
, was a keynote speaker at a conference at Stellenbosch University outside of Cape Town in South Africa. The conference was March 13-15 on the theme, “Transgression and Transformation: The Role of Feminist, Postcolonial and Queer Biblical Interpretation in Fostering Communities of Justice. Her paper, titled “Justice for Rahab and the Gibeonites in the Book of Joshua: The Elusive Communities of Justice in the Imperial/Colonial Contexts,” engages a postcolonial analysis of the narratives depicting biblical Israel’s encounters with Rahab and with the Gibeonites.
The conference was organized by Professor Julia Claassen, Professor of Old Testament and Chair of Faculty of Theology at Stellenbosch University, and hosted by the Gender Unit, Beyers Naude Center for Public Theology, Faculty of Theology, Stellenbosch University in collaboration with The Center for Theology, Women, and Gender of Princeton Theological Seminary.
Dr. Mbuwayesango’s paper will be discussed at the Faculty Colloquium at Hood Theological Seminary on Thursday, April 4.

On April 26, President Lattimore will represent HTS as a delegate in the Inauguration and Installation of The Rev. Dr. Alton B. Powell, III as the tenth president of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY.
