Vote Alachua Update
May 2018
From the Supervisor

This month, I wrote in The Gainesville Sun about how long we are expecting the November ballot to be. I'm telling everyone I know to vote early or vote by mail. It will go a long way in helping Election Day go smoothly.

We have four new poll worker orientations this month and in June. If you're already a poll worker, I encourage you to tell your friends and family to attend. The orientations will be on May 16 and June 14 — with sessions at 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. both days . These are for people who have not served as poll workers in the past.

I look forward to seeing everyone over the next few months.

Respectfully,
Kim A. Barton
Supervisor of Elections
Alachua County

Vote Alachua Team Spotlight
Kandy Rochow

Kandy Rochow is an elections clerk in our office. She became a member of the Vote Alachua Team in June 2017. In her role, she greets guests at the front counter, answers phones and processes voter records.

Kandy says her favorite part about being part of the Vote Alachua Team is working with her fellow employees and citizens, as well as volunteering at outreach activities.

Outside of work, she enjoys gardening, fishing and exploring historic sites around North Central Florida.
In conjunction with  Alachua County Public Schools , we created a video encouraging all students over the age of 16 to pre-register or register to vote. Prospective voters can now pre-register or register online at  RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov.

Pictured above with Supervisor Barton is Alachua County Schools Superintendent Karen Clarke.
Our annual school outreach program has started. So far, we've pre-registered or registered about 300 students in Alachua County Schools.
The art club at  P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School spent parts of the last two months creating pieces that we will hang in our office this year.
Last month, we held a voter registration drive with University of Florida President Kent Fuchs. The drive was co-sponsored by the Bob Graham Center for Public Service.

Using footage we captured at the event, we will be creating a video to encourage students to register to vote.
The March 20 City of Gainesville Regular Election was the first for our Adopt-A-Precinct Program. Three poll workers pledged to donate the money they earned to a non-profit of their choosing.

In total, they raised almost $500.

Our office continues its I Vote Because campaign, which features voters and short quotes from them describing why they vote. The pictures and quotes are featured on our Facebook page .

If you'd like to have one created, send a short statement (less than 30 words) describing why you vote and a picture to tjpyche@alachuacounty.us .
