Are yo u new to this great event? We'll have lots more details for you in the coming weeks, but here's the scene:

We begin w ith an inspiring and soulful Opening Ceremony to honor the survivors celebrating with us that day, as well as those we've lost.

Then th e runners hit the trail! The 5K and 10K races are timed by On Your Mark Events, a professional race timing company. Awards for top 3 runners in each race/age group.

Next come the walkers, rollers, and strollers, an enthusiastic group that includes participants of all ages and abilities out to have some fun and raise awareness, community spirit, and funds in support of survivors.

Following the walking and running, participants enjoy a BBQ lunch in the picnic pavilion. Last but not least, our Community Expo features vendors, nonprofits, and healthcare organizations sharing about their services and giving away food, samples, and services.

Every dollar we raise at this event allows us to continue serving our clients healing from breast cancer! We encourage everyone to create a donation page and help us raise much needed funds.

We are thrilled to announce that East Bay Community Foundation will match Crowdrise online donations, up to $20,000!!! Make your donations go further and help raise even more money for HERS Breast Cancer Foundation.

The Buzz on our Busy Bees

HERS at Impact Club

HERS was voted to speak at the Union City Impact Club's summer meeting on July 11 th . The Impact Club is part of a national organization that meets quarterly. Members each donate $100 per meeting, listen to three local nonprofit presentations, then vote for the organization that has made the biggest impression. With 50 members, the Union City branch currently donates $5,000 per quarter. HERS was in good company, presenting along with FESCO of Hayward and Fremont's Washington Hospital Healthcare Foundation.

Annette Lewellyn, HERS Director of Programs, shared our mission, community impact, and outlined how one of our patients benefited from all three of our assistance programs. Annette's presentation was amazing. The majority of club members voted for FESCO of Hayward. Congratulations to them!

Breast Cancer Advocacy and Education: DiepC Foundation

Terri Coutee is founder and director of the nonprofit organization DiepCFoundation.org.  After a second breast cancer diagnosis and successful DIEP flap breast reconstruction she continues her profession as a long-time educator and now works a patient advocate for all options of breast reconstruction. She attends medical conferences, educates the public through speaking engagements and events, and travels to make educational videos on topics for breast cancer and breast reconstruction patients.

Terri's reaches across the globe through her WordPress blog, to those who want to know about the first-hand experience of a patient who has survived breast cancer twice and gone through successful breast reconstruction. She utilizes social media on a global scale to maximize her outreach to educate those in need of information about all options for breast reconstruction.

Recently, Terri sat down with Dr. Rishi Sawhney, HERS board member and Medical Director & Chair of the Stanford Health Care ValleyCare Cancer program. They talked for hours about the state of breast cancer treatment and reconstruction. Terri also visited our Fremont store and discussed patient care and advocacy with HERS staff. They made some excellent videos that will help Terri educate her followers about post-surgical garments and HERS services. These videos are a wonderful way to spread the word about HERS to your friends and family.
