Each year, EAA students and staff participate in "Spirit Week." Themes are established for each day and everyone is encouraged to participate through dress and actions. On Friday, Hawk Day, the EAA Community was divided into eight groups, each identified by a different color, and participated in a school-wide time of games and activities planned by the high school ASB and sponsors, Mr. & Mrs. Martinez. Kings, Queens, a Prince and a Princess, with EAA Spirit, were crowned. EAA is best when united to work toward a common goal. What a great demonstration of what it means to be a Hawk!

Her eyes get brighter and her smile gets wider when fall comes around each year. Yes, Mrs. Zimmerman is so happy when it is time for "All Things Pumpkin." Each fall Mrs. Z creates pumpkin magic to give students a taste of the goodness of the season. Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm for pumpkins with the students, Mrs. Z!

Where In The World Are EAA Alumni?

Jennifer Ekblad, MPA, CMC Class of 2002
As the newly appointed City Clerk for the City of Coronado, Jennifer Ekblad credits her career path to her EAA government class with Mr. Schwartz. After showing an interest and aptitude for government and politics, Mr. Schwartz encouraged her to pursue a political science major in college, but the fashion industry seemed more appealing to Ekblad at the time. After attending Pacific Union College for a year, Jennifer decided to pursue a fashion merchandising and business degree. She transferred to Point Loma Nazarene University and graduated in 2006. After working as a clothing buyer in Orange County for a few years, Jennifer moved back to Escondido wanting a better quality of life. She was approached to apply for a job in the City Clerk’s Office for the City of Escondido. She immediately loved it and decided to switch careers. Ekblad actually has to give credit to two of her EAA teachers. Although Bryan Schwartz was her government teacher, her boss at Escondido was her former first-grade teacher, Diane Halverson, who also found a second career in local government.
Once at Escondido, Ekblad wanted to expand her career options and decided to pursue a master’s degree in public administration (MPA) from San Diego State University. She also obtained an international certification as a municipal clerk (CMC). After working as an Executive Office Coordinator, Jennifer was promoted to Deputy City Clerk, then Assistant City Clerk. After five years at Escondido, Jennifer was ready to diversify her experience and Coronado seemed like a perfect fit. An avid beachgoer and occasional paddle boarder, Jennifer was thrilled to work for a coastal community like Coronado.

As a 12 year alumnus, Jennifer served as ASB president, senior class secretary, huddle leader for Fellowship of Christian Athletes, team captain for varsity volleyball, and played varsity basketball. Her favorite memories of EAA are playing sports and the 10th-grade biology trip to Baja. “In hindsight, I’m so grateful for my education and experience at EAA. Not only did I get an incredible education with experienced and caring teachers, but I also formed long-lasting friendships. I even worked with an EAA classmate at the City of Escondido!”

Hawks Family,
I have spent a good portion of my life as a Hawk. This past week, as our school family celebrated School Spirit Week, we wrapped up with a TK-12 event inspired by Mrs. Martinez. Seeing our entire school celebrate as one Hawks family reminded me again of why our school is so special.
1 Corinthians 12:12 says, "The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up only one body. So it is with the body of Christ." Our school body is made up of many parts as well. From the littlest to the biggest. All faculty and staff members. Each one is a vital part to making us who we are. In verse 27 it says, "Now all of you together are Christ's body, and each one of you is a separate and necessary part of it." It was so fun to see ALL of those parts together last Friday on Hawks Day.
Our school family is a special thing. Thank you all for being a part of it!
Blessings,
Bill Davis
EAA Principal

Part of our intent here at EAA is to help our students focus on others around them. We want them to look for ways to make a difference. I hope that the following article can help you as well as we look to help our children learn the value of generosity.
