Dear ,

We are in full summer now, and I always find myself dipping into Mary Oliver's poetry in high summer. She has such a gift for finding words for moments that I thought were wordless, for seeing soul in the natural world, and inviting us to feel it, see it, too.

This is one of my favorite poems, and I often find myself thinking about it as I get ready to send my son, Ben, off to a month of summer camp in New Hampshire where he will hike mountains, jump in cold lake water, and spend the night in his sleeping bag under the stars.
Wherever you go this summer, keep your eyes open for the beauty of summer. When you are in Wellesley, join us for worship and fellowship at 8am and 10am on Sunday mornings.

Sleeping in the Forest
By Mary Oliver

I thought the earth remembered me,
she took me back so tenderly,
arranging her dark skirts, her pockets
full of lichens and seeds.
I slept as never before, a stone on the river bed,
nothing between me and the white fire of the stars
but my thoughts, and they floated light as moths
among the branches of the perfect trees.
All night, I heard the small kingdoms
breathing around me, the insects,
and the birds who do their work in the darkness.
All night, I rose and fell, as if in water,
grappling with a luminous doom. By morning
I had vanished at least a dozen times
into something better.

Yours in Christ,

Margaret

B-SAFE this summer!
Thank you to the 40+ volunteers who have signed up to work with St. Stephen's B-SAFE from July 9 - 13 and July 23. We still have a few spots open for volunteers, especially to interact with the kids in Boston while lunch is being served, and on our Friday field trip at Lake Cochituate. It is very rewarding to spend time with these enthusiastic kids, and it is a tremendous help to this important Outreach ministry.   Visit the St. Andrew's website to sign up .
Are You Interested in Being Confirmed?
Bishop Gates will join us in October to confirm and receive teens and adults. Do you feel called to claim confirmation, renew your confirmation, or be received into our Episcopal Church? We will have four classes to prepare for this important milestone. Contact Margaret to learn more.
Honoring St. Andrew's Veterans
The fall issue of The CALL will include an "honor roll" list of St. Andrew's members (living and deceased) who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. If you would like yourself or a family member listed, please email Cat with the veteran's name, branch, and (if applicable) foreign wars in which the veteran served.
"Refreshing" the Parish Prayer List
Praying for our loved ones at time of need on the parish prayer list is a central part of our worship and church life. We would like to remind you that at the beginning of every month, we "refresh" the prayer list. We remove names of people for whom we have been asked to pray if we have not heard that you wish us to keep your loved one on the list for the next month. We are happy to keep people on the list for as long as they are in need of our prayers. However, our pro-active approach helps prevent a build up of people on the list after the need for our prayers for that person has passed. Thanks for your help with this.
From the Treasurer's Office
As you plan for your summer holiday, please remember to keep your pledge payments current over the next three months. Our expenses continue in the summer, and we rely on pledge income to pay our bills promptly. Thanks and best wishes for a refreshing summer!

Prayers for Outreach Partners
We have started a practice of praying each week for one of the St. Andrew's outreach partners in the Prayers of the People. The outreach partners are charities that the parish supports with our time and donations from our parish budget. The aim of this new practice is both to hold the work of these charities in our prayers, and to familiarize the congregation with the different charities we support as we put our faith into action as a parish.
