This summer, David Kendrick, an 8th Grade Georgia Studies Teacher from Bear Creek Middle School, was among 1,000 other K-12 teachers, library educators, and National Park Service interpreters selected in a competitive process, who traveled to Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, PA to attend a weeklong professional development seminar entitled "Gettysburg: History and Memory."
Led by renowned historian, Dr. Allen Guelzo , Luce Professor of Civil War Era Studies and Professor of History/Civil War Era Studies at Gettysburg College, the rigorous seminar explored the Battle of Gettysburg. "The Gilder Lehrman Summer Seminar "Gettysburg: History and Memory" was an excellent opportunity to learn directly from Dr. Allen Guelzo, spend several days visiting and interacting with the battlefield itself, and to interact with other accomplished teachers. Dr. Guelzo's mastery of the narratives and primary sources and the centrality of place were excellent and of tremendous value to me and will be of great value to my students for years to come." said Kendrick.
