Purim Preparations & Celebrations
Pre-Purim Late Night Learning

On Tuesday night, March 19th, TABC held its annual Pre-Purim Late Night Learning. The program was sponsored by the Tokayer family in memory of their late son, Ilan, who graduated TABC in 2003. The night kicked off with an interactive, engaging shiur from Rabbi Reichman about why we do not say Hallel on Purim.  Afterwards there were various shiurim given by Rabbi Jachter, Mr. Strassman, Rabbi Hoenig and Rabbi Krinsky. In the middle of all the learning, the students enjoyed a Dougie's dinner of poppers, wings and yes, the blooming onion. It was a great night and great way for everyone to get in the Purim spirit!

Ta'anit Esther Atzeret Tefillah

TABC students, along with students from 46 other yeshivot across North America, participated in a live interactive Atzeret Tefillah on Taanit Esther. The entire school gathered together in the beit knesset to listen to live streamed speakers from across the globe and to recite Tehillim in unison. Students at Netiv Aryeh, in Yerushalayim, led the program with music and song. This was the first program of its kind and we are very proud of our participation. TABC students truly felt the power of prayer.
Purim Night Celebration

On Wednesday night TABC hosted its much-anticipated Purim chagiga. The gym was packed with students, parents and faculty who came out to celebrate together. The dancing was non-stop as more and more students entered the gym.  There was a live performance by Tzuzamin, a band of TABC students, Grammin, and of course some amazing food. There were fresh Cinnabons and ice cream for everyone. The dancing lasted well into the night with everyone leaving having kicked off their Purim in the best way possible. TABC Heads to South Jersey on Chesed Mission
Fourteen TABC juniors and seniors went to Southern New Jersey on a two-day chesed trip led by Rabbi Dovid Einhorn and Rabbi Scott Friedman. They met early Sunday morning for Shacharit and heard from Robert Hoenig who spoke about Project Ezrah and all it does for our local community. The group then headed to JFS Food Pantry in Elizabeth to pack and deliver yom tov food packages for families in need. After lunch in Livingston, the group went to the Bikur Cholim house in West Orange for Mincha and to hear from TABC parent, Dr. Joe Rozehzadeh, who spoke to the group about his exile from Iran, his leadership in the world of chesed, and all the chesed done in his local community. The impressive contingent then went on to visit the residents at Kessler Rehabilitation Center, to bring them some pre-Purim cheer, and to enjoy a Purim dvar Torah by Rabbi Einhorn. Once they all arrived in Long Branch, where they'd be staying the night, the boys enjoyed a Dougie's dinner, a night swim, and a late-night kumzitz on the beach. Monday got off to an exciting start with Shacharit at the Roberts Shul and breakfast at 4 Corners. The boys then headed over to Bikur Cholim of Lakewood where they helped clean for Pesach. The talmidim brought huge smiles to the faces of students at SCHI (School for Children with Hidden Intelligence) as they visited and played games with them. They had the unique opportunity to hear from the school's founder, Rabbi Osher Eisenman, about the school and all the miracles he experienced since its inception. After a trip to Beth Medrash Govoha, with a shiur by Rosh Yeshiva Rav Yeruchum Olshin and Mincha, the group volunteered at the Special Children's center in Lakewood where they did a project and danced with the kids. Following a last-stop visit to Judaica Plaza, the boys headed back to TABC knowing that they had touched the lives of many people who could use extra smiles and feeling great about having done just that. TABC at Jerusalem Marathon
Principal Mr. Poleyeff joined six seniors and one junior as Team TABC ran for Yachad in the 2019  Jerusalem   Marathon  on Friday, March 15th. The entire 4-day experience was highlighted by the half, 10K and 5K legs of the race. In addition to baking pizza for soldiers and visiting the virtual reality of the Kotel, the team spent an inspiring Shabbat with Yachad members on a shabbaton.

Spandex and Spacetime:
A Natural Fit
Over the past week, Rabbi First's 11G Physics classes have been learning about the laws of special relativity and spacetime, including many of the fascinating discoveries made by Albert Einstein in just the last 100 years. As part of this unit, they watched a video showing how a ball rolling on Spandex can be used to simulate how curves in spacetime could help scientists explain and model gravity and planetary orbits . Not satisfied to just watch it, Avi Stuart and Azaria Bin-Nun decided to take the initiative and build one of their own. They headed out to Home Depot, and, using a large Spandex cloth, PVC pipe, and duct tape managed to build a Spandex curved space simulator of their own. They then experimented, with dozens of other students watching, at trying to create elliptical orbits, figure-8 orbits, and Moon-Earth orbits around the Sun. And it worked! A great time was had by all in the process.
College Guidance Department
on the Road
This past week Dr. Garry Katz and Elliot Pager went on the road to visit colleges. On Wednesday both counselors went across the river to visit Yeshiva University. The visit was specifically to meet with those involved with Yeshiva University's Associate of Science in Management. The program combines Jewish and business education along with their distinctive on-campus experience. Students are an integral part of the university social, athletic and religious life while pursuing an academic program specifically for them. Through a carefully planned curriculum, students gain the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a data-rich, global business environment. Upon graduation, students have a choice of pathways: if they wish to continue their education, and have proven themselves academically, they can transition to the bachelor's degree; if they wish to pursue professional opportunities, they will be well equipped to join the business world. This program is a wonderful opportunity for those students who may not yet have the skills to be successful in a four year program. During the day, meetings were held with the Admissions office, students who have been through the program and the program's advisor. This small program is very impressive and might be a good landing spot for the right student.

On Thursday, along with about a dozen other high school counselors from Jewish High Schools, Dr. Katz visited the University of Hartford. A small university of about 5,000 students, it offers a wide number of different schools and programs. They are most well-known for the Hartt School which is a comprehensive performing arts conservatory program with innovative degree programs in music, dance, and theatre. They also have strong school in engineering and business as well as a School of Arts and Science and Hillyer College which is a transitional program for students with weaker skills who need help transitioning to a full college load. While there, the counselors attended an information session, met with admissions, toured the campus, had lunch at the Kosher station in the cafeteria and met with the head of Hillel. The school has many Jewish students but very few Orthodox students and, unfortunately, does not yet have the Orthodox Jewish mass to meet the needs of our families. We will be watching the school over the next few years to see how it develops.

The College Guidance Department is always visiting and speaking to the colleges to which our students apply and is always looking for additional colleges that might meet our students' interests and needs.

TABC STORM Turns Down Hillel Heat in Varsity Soccer Opener

The TABC Storm Varsity Soccer team kicked off their regular season home opener in style and it only took them 3 of the 4 quarters to cruise to a mercy victory over the Hillel Heat. Everyone got in on the action with at least 6 players scoring 2 goals or more. The Storm are now 3-0 and will look to continue their undefeated start to the season when they head down to Paramus to play Frisch next week. Next stop: Qatar for World Cup 2022.
TABC STORM JV Soccer Blow Away Kushner Cobras

Storm JV Soccer continued their winning record Tuesday night, rolling to a 9-2 rout over the Kushner Cobras in Livingston. Benji Grin '21 and Eitan Gulich '22 set the tempo from the start, scoring two goals each, and Zach Levy '21 assisted on three of the four goals scored. Kushner was able to cut the deficit in the second half, but the Storm held them off behind the stellar defensive play of Max Leibenstern '21, Jacob Dahan '21, and goalkeeper Daniel Grin '22. The team returns to the Weather Center next week for their home opener.
