2017 Annual Report hot off the presses

This past year proved to be one of an ever-growing opiate-heroin epidemic directly impacting Sojourner House. It also proved to be one of continued support of, and dedication to our mission. Read our recently published annual report to learn more.
300-plus friends attend 14th Annual Victorian Tea
Sojourner House’s 14th Annual Victorian Tea fundraiser on April 15 proved to be bigger, better and more successful than ever. Gorgeous hats and fascinators filled the Priory, with more than 300 guests in attendance. Nearly 50 silent auction and raffle items lined the Great Hall. Emcee Shannon Perrine introduced musicians Eric Granata and Nina Sainato, who performed a beautiful rendition of “Here Comes the Sun” while guests enjoyed tea sandwiches, teas and various pastries. Soon thereafter, Henry Horn-Pyatt from the Office of Mayor William Peduto proclaimed April 15 “Sojourner House Day.” A reading by a Sojourner House graduate followed by a video about Sojourner House and Chatham University “Words without Walls” collaboration brought tears to many guests’ eyes, while Pearl of Hope recipient Lynne Chadwick and honorary chair Sabika Jewelry Founder and CEO Karin Mayr offered words of inspiration.

“My heart swells to see a room so full of color, so full of joy, so bright and brilliant…big enough to shed light on the disease of addiction, a disease often hidden in the shadows, shrouded in secrecy,” said long-time Sojourner House supporter Cori Parise. See photos from the event.
Sojourner House raising funds for new MOMS format

Sojourner House is in the midst of raising funds for one of our East Liberty-based MOMS apartment buildings which will begin offering recovery support housing for families in a healthy, drug-free environment, this summer. There are six 3-bedroom units that can accommodate two-parent households and up to four children. With support from Allegheny County, Sojourner House MOMS is converting the building into transitional supportive housing for families in recovery. Strawberry Festival time!
Shadyside Presbyterian Church’s 25th annual Strawberry Festival, which took place on June 8 on the lawn of the church, was once again an evening full of great fun and great comradery. Proceeds from the event have benefited Sojourner House for the past eight years. Read all about the festival in the Summer 2018 of issue of Shady Ave magazine.
Thank you, Sojourner House volunteers!
Sojourner House thanked its volunteers for their help throughout the year by hosting an appreciation dinner on April 18 at its East Liberty residence. A small, but enthusiastic group attended this year’s dinner, including volunteers from the Murrysville Bible Study Group, Cranberry Women’s Club, First Presbyterian Church, Homewood AME Zion Sister Missionary Society, Tickets For Kids Charities, and long-time supporters Ann Brooks, Trish Calloway, and Toni Phinese.
