KAA's 60th Anniversary pARTy was a SMASH HIT!

Thank you to everyone who joined us at "The View" on Saturday, June 23rd, to help us celebrate 60 years of the KAA!  The night was magical and ended all too soon...

View from The View 2018
View from "The View"

It was a story of art, of expansion, of fire and destruction, and then a rising again that was told in countless ways on Saturday night at "The View" in Kittery Point's newest restaurant as the Kittery Art Association - 100 strong - wound things up by singing Happy Birthday to itself after a 60 year run!

President Deborah Cotter kicked things off after the Ben Baldwin Trio (er, Duo, actually) had warmed up the crowd with saxophones, songs, guitars and keyboards.  After naming names , she introduced Vance Morgan, one of the original board members who is now once again on the board helping to guide the way into the future with experience from the past, who presented us with the history of KAA, it's trials, tribulations and eventual rise from the ashes (literally!), followed by Dianne Dean, another KAA trooper!

In the lead-up to this moment, delicious plates of delectable hors d'oeuvres were passed around and there was a steady stream to the bar as the sun set over Pepperrell Cove outside, with a remarkable view of Frisbee Wharf from our vantage point within "The View."

Of course, the KAA Gallery is a hop, skip and jump away on Coleman Ave, the main focus for this fascinating story, history and celebration.

Can't wait until next year when KAA turns 61 -- hope to see you there!

Monday Evening Drumming with John Felice at KAA
July 9th through August 13th
Next Session:  Monday, July 16th, 5 PM

Come join us at the KAA on Mondays for six fun-filled summer evenings of drum-circle style classes accessible to everyone from "never-ever played any instrument EVER" to the seasoned musician.
JFelice

Through the experience of playing multi-part rhythms from around the world, we will learn how to make a drum sound great, enjoy making music together as a community, and creatively express ourselves with percussion!

John will provide drums, bells, singing stones, boomwhackers and other exotic percussion. Feel free to bring any percussion of your own, even if you don't know what it is.

NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!

John Felice has been leading drum-circles and teaching the hand-drumming traditions of Africa and other cultures for over 20 years throughout New England. Since 1995 he has lead the local drum group "Positive RePercussions." He is passionate about and committed to sharing the healing power and "mindfulness" aspects of drumming, as well as the purely joyful and musical aspects. Restoration of damaged and forlorn instruments, and crafting beautiful custom drums is another of John's passions.

Cost:  $60 for the series of 6 classes, or single drop in class is $12.

If you have any questions about the class or any of his other work, feel free to call John Felice at 603-986-2345.

CALL TO ARTISTS!  KCC Art Show in Honor of Sarah Mildred Long Memorial Bridge
Exhibit Start Date:  Wednesday, January 9th, 2019, at 6 PM.

Stop the grumbling!  The Sarah Mildred Long Bridge was late, but it's here...and every time it saves you a few minutes getting from here to there, you should celebrate its completion!

With that in mind -- in cooperation with the Visual Arts Committee at the Kittery Community Center -- Bill Moore is helping to organize a night to honor the demise of the old Sarah and the arrival of the new structure, with a special presentation in the Star Theater and an art show in the Morgan Gallery.
That will take place, starting in the Gallery at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9 th, 2019.
This event is open to the public...and you're invited to come and see it.  More, if you have a photo or a painting of the bridge you would like to share, we'll be happy to consider it.
We know it sounds like a long way off, but Bill needs to look over the best photography and artwork we can find of the bridge.
In any case, if you're interested in having your photos and artwork be part of this presentation, you must contact Bill at hemmmingwa@gmail.com.  Do it now!
The Kittery Art Association, a charitable organization incorporated by the state of Maine, sponsors a variety of public events in support of local artists and writers of all ages.
Membership is $35 and expires each January.
Membership applications are available on our website, or feel free to pick one up at the KAA Gallery located at 8 Coleman Ave., Kittery Point, ME.  We look forward to hearing from you, and thank you for supporting the Arts!
