How to Celebrate Passover This Year
Dear Mount Zion Community,

In nine days, we will celebrate Judaism’s master narrative holiday.

Passover tells our origin story. It is worth taking a moment (once again) to think how radical this story is for a “birth narrative”: we were once an enslaved people whom God freed from Egypt and therefore we will never be a people who mistreats any stranger.

This year, it is beyond challenging to know that we will not be encountering any strangers for our Passover seder. We will not even be with friends and family. Some will be alone.

No one should be alone on a holiday. Especially in this time of physical distancing, Passover should be a break from isolation, a time of joy and connection. This year, it can only happen virtually.

We encourage everyone to have a full festive meal and seder as you are able and…

If you are willing to invite someone to your seder through Zoom or another communication tool, let us know. If you are willing to tell us that you need a place to be included, please, please be in touch.

  • So if you are willing to host someone virtually at your seder, email our Congregation Engagement Director Shai Avny [email protected] or call 651-698-3881. If you want to see a Mount Zion training for how to host a Zoom session, click here.

  • And if you are open to someone inviting you through the phone or computer to join their seder, please call Shai 651-698-3881 or email [email protected].

Next Monday we will send some videos and music that you could include in your seder or use for preparation. In the meantime, here are excellent ideas and resources from the URJ (Reform Movement) and free Haggadah flipbooks from the CCAR (Reform Rabbinic Association).

At the seder we say, “Let all who are hungry come and eat.” This year we will also say, “Let all who are hungry for community, come and find connection.”

As you prepare for Passover, please let us know what you need.

L’shalom,
