Join Us for a Hike Tomorrow, March 23!
On Saturday, March 23, at 1:00 pm,
we will hike the Pate Hollow Trail. This trail has options for shorter hikes (3-4 mile) and also a longer (7.7 mile) hike. Those who wish to carpool, meet at the east side K-Mart parking lot at 12:30 p.m. on the 23rd. Please email Ann LeDuc at

Reverend Barbara Child
Rev. Barbara Child will share the heart of what she has learned from writing her memoir,
Memories of a Vietnam Veteran: What I Have Remembered and What He Could Not Forget
, and from her journey to Vietnam last November. The first chapter of the story, of her years with her partner Alan Morris, took place at Kent State University in the wake of the National Guard killings there on May 4, 1970.
Reverend Child's new book will be available for sale at our book table in Fellowship Hall between services on Sunday, March 24. She will also be available at that time to sign copies of the book.

This Week in Religious Education: Generosity
World of Wonder (Preschool) will be hearing the story of how our Flaming Chalice symbol came to be. Roots and Wings (K-2nd grade) will hear the Parable of the Vineyard Workers as they explore another hot issue for children: Fairness. Curiosity Club (3rd-6th) grade will be partnering with our Green Grounds to work on getting things ready for spring planting. Come dressed to get dirty and be outside. Our Whole Lives (7th & 8th grade) will meet for their last class followed by a celebration with their families in Fellowship Hall at 12:30 pm. High School Youth Group will meet in the Library for pizza and then go to Room 210 for Big Conversations: Decentering Cisgender Experience. Thank you for your sUUper support! Our 3rd-6th graders in Curiosity Club were able to raise $361 for Community Kitchen's Backpack Buddies program through their soup lunch fundraiser on March 17th!

Velma Harrison welcomes care cards from her friends and short visits (please call her first). She is in hospice now, with 24-hour care at her apartment at
Bell Trace.
Our healing thoughts are also with Jean Knowlton, who is currently with hospice and with her family. No visitors at this time; cards are welcome, mailed to Jean's home address.

ecounted experiences with transgender individuals from a cisgender perspective --
and the reaction of the UU transgender community to it. (Note the apology from the UU World editor that prefaces the original piece.)
How can we shift our narratives to ones that understand, celebrate, and welcome trans people? And how can we become truly welcoming as a congregation? Amy Makice will facilitate the conversation using principles of Relational Cultural Theory.
*Decentering = displacement from a central position, especially of the individual human subject from a primary place or central role.
**Cisgender = a term for people whose gender identity matches the sex that they were assigned at birth.

Join the Just Peace Task Force at 4 pm in the Meeting Room this Sunday for this important event. Anthony Wier of the Friends Committee on National Legislation will be speaking on "The Myth of Usable Nuclear Weapons." Anthony is one of the nation's leading experts in nuclear arms control and is in the thick of Congressional efforts to stop these dangerous programs. Contact David Keppel for more information.

Hatha Yoga Class with Kate Mulligan
5:30-7:00 pm, Tuesdays, March 26-April 30
in the Library
A gentle hatha yoga practice to balance the mind, body, and spirit. Includes: warm up and gentle asanas (yoga poses) for strength, flexibility, and relaxation along with breath work and guided meditation. Kate holds a 500 hour yoga teacher certificate from the Institute of Holistic Yoga. Please bring a yoga mat or large size bath towel.

New Deadlines for Order of Service and Friday Update Info

Because we have shifted the rhythm of our work week to hold our weekly staff meeting on Thursdays now, we encourage everyone to send us information for the order of service by 9:00 am on Thursdays. Deadline for info to be included in the Friday Update is also now due by 9:00 am on Thursdays.

Help us represent the UU Church on April 14th at the 3rd annual Faith and Family Day at Bart Kaufman Field. Everyone is welcome to attend, and the church will buy your ticket. For families whose kids (and/or adults) need space to run, there is a play area behind right field. If you'd like to purchase food vouchers ($5 for an entree and a drink), they are the only thing you would need to pay for.

livestream on our website. At the church we also have screens set up in the nursery (Room 104) and in Fellowship Hall, if you need to leave the Meeting Room for any reason but still want to watch the service.
