Dear Saint Rose Families,

I had the opportunity today to visit our sixth graders at Camp Michindoh.  They were having a great time.  While eating lunch with Mrs. Sankowski and a group of our students, I heard all about the week.  They really seemed to enjoy archery, mammal time, reptiles and amphibians, tie dye shirt making, survival skills and skit night.  They were not as excited about this evening's hoe down!

I had a lot of fun at camp and I am looking forwar d to a great spring break.  I pray that you have safe travels and enjoy your time away from school.
Please, CLICK HERE to see images from the week!
Sincerely,
Bryon Borgelt

LENT COLLECTION:   SHOES, SOCKS, MONEY

Last week Mrs. Anita Plantz spoke with the students about her work at Saint Louis Helping Hands.  She explained that she volunteers three days a week in the clothing area.  She sorts, folds, labels, and organizes the donated clothing.  Families and adults may visit the clothing closet to get needed clothing items for their children or themselves.  Mrs. Plantz displayed donated clothing items and also examples of new tennis shoes that will be available at the Back to School Shoe Event in August.

As of Monday, Saint Rose School has collected 36 pairs of NEW shoes, over 120 pairs of NEW socks, and well over $300 (thanks to the response to the Student Council hot chocolate sale).

Thank you for the generous response so far!
Let's aim for 100 pairs of NEW shoes.

Class Mass - Grades 4 & 5

Come join other families with students in grade 4 & 5 at 9:00 am  Mass on April 7.  Together with the larger Saint Rose family, you can create bonds of friendship as you worship together.  After the  Mass, enjoy a simple reception in the Sacred Heart Center (school cafeteria).  One family is asked to volunteer to bring up the Offertory gifts, and several families are asked to serve as greeters before  Mass (arrive at 8:45 am).

Please CLICK HERE to RSVP for the  Mass  and reception.  Seating will be reserved in the front pews on the Saint Joseph side of church.

Guidance Lesson Recap: Curiosity

This month's lesson focused on the Lifeskill of Curiosity in having a desire to  investigate and seek understanding of the world. We discussed many avenues in which  we can inquire and learn about things that interest us beyond the classroom.

Grade K/1: We read the book The Cow Who Climbed the Tree by Gemma Merino. The  story was about a cow named Tina who had great ideas, but her sisters did not feel the  same desire and even put down her drive for curiosity. Tina got to explore and experience  all kinds of new adventures, while her sisters didn't believe in her. In the end, her sisters  started to open their minds to new experiences and ideas, along with their sister. As a  class, we discussed how we could easily get stuck in our usual routine and not want to  open our minds to new ideas. We discussed the many ways in which being curious for  new information helps students be successful in school and in life.

Grade 2/3: We read the story Builder Brothers Big Plans by Jonathan and Drew Scott.  The story was about twin boys, Jonathan and Drew who loved to come up with big ideas.  Even when people didn't believe in them, the boys pushed through and let their curiosity  find a way to create their new idea, to build their own birdhouse! As a class, we discussed  how curiosity inspires many of us to come up with new ideas.

Grades 4 & 5: The classes continued to pilot the Be Kind Program in their lessons in the  classroom. The kids seem to be learning many great things about being aware in how our  actions affect others.

Grades 6-8: As a class, we discussed many ways curiosity is important in our daily lives.  We discussed how curiosity allows us to learn about many things outside of the  classroom that interest us. Students then had an opportunity to explore their curiosity a  bit. Students then in groups picked a vacation destination in which they would like to  explore. They had a chance to research it, and then presented a mini persuasive essay in  why their destination is the best. In the end, as a class, we voted to see who had the most  convincing argument. We really learned about many fun places that we did not know  about before.

Have a wonderful Spring Break!
