T he latest news from the Virginia Department of Transportation on plans to improve
Richmond Highway (Route 1) from Jeff Todd Way to Napper Road in Fairfax County

This project will improve almost three miles of Richmond Highway from Jeff Todd Way to Napper Road in Fairfax County. The proposed plans will widen the road from four to six lanes, provide separate bicycle and pedestrian accommodations on both sides of the road, and reserve the median width necessary to accommodate Fairfax County's future Bus Rapid Transit plans for dedicated bus-only lanes.

The environmental document, required as part of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) for the Richmond Highway Improvements project, is now available for public review and comment. In compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act and 23 CFR 771 , an Environmental Assessment (EA) was prepared and approved by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) for this project.

Copies of the EA will be available at the NEPA Public Hearing and Public Information Meeting on Monday, Oct. 29, 2018 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., presentation starts at 7 p.m. at Mount Vernon High School Auditorium/Cafeteria located at 8515 Old Mount Vernon Road in Alexandria, VA  22309.
